Roadkill’s Most Successful Junkyard Rescue - A Pontiac T-37

Featured Replies

This time on Roadkill, the Freiburger and Finnegan don’t totally fail! Failure is usually the norm, but while rescuing the T-37 Pontiac Steve Magnante found at L&L Classic Auto in Idaho on Junkyard Gold, the guys figured they would do things the “right” way. No, you aren’t living in an alternate reality. Steve picked out such a good car that Freiburger and Finnegan took all the precautions to ensure the car would run and drive reliably. It wouldn’t be Roadkill without bumps in the road—of which there are many—but guys revive the crusty Pontiac and road-trip to an Evel Knievel landmark and make a shocking discovery about the engine they don’t know they have.

If you watched an episode of Roadkill Garage earlier this season, Frieburger and Dulchich got an International Harvester pickup working again. At the end of the episode, they picked up a used Pontiac 400 engine and 350 turbo transmission for the T-37. When I spoke to Frieburger at Roadkill Nights about the T-37, he said he and Dulchich were rebuilding and building up a new 400 engine for it.

David Frieburger just posted this quick video this week. The description says....

"Steve Dulcich of Roadkill Garage finally has a dyno at his home shop! The SBE Pontiac 400 here made 444 hp and 480 lb-ft with Edelbrock D-ports, a Comp 237 Thumper, and RPM intake."

Oh and in case you didn't know, the show Engine Masters is no more. Steve Brule retired in May from Westech Performance.

Sorry to see the Engine Masters show has ended. I learned a lot watching it.

That was Dulchich on the T-37 east coast trip with Freiburger. Finnegan was not in that episode.

In case you didn't know, Dulchich was the editor and a technical writer for the old Engine Masters magazine. He knows his way around Pontiac engines  base on his magazine test results and he also owns a '67 Bonneville station wagon. So this engine is either for the T-37 or his Bonneville. I'm betting it is for the T-37 based on what Freiburger told me.
