  1. Gawd....I'd forgotten how some of these threads go with GE!!!
  2. Let's be clear on this....how will you end up in Frosty's room????? 1. Getting the wheels for the Chevelle? 2. Putting a supercharged beast of a drivetrain like that in her Fiero? 3. Canada runs out of Timbits? 4. The Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup?
  3. Welcome aboard. What all do you have to do it? Are you doing anything to resto-mod it a bit?
  4. Technically speaking, GE has made roadkill "ACE" status. GE Was Here !!!!
  5. When you are rooting around the turkey barn, please hunt up that list of Pontiac part numbers for the various blocks, heads, intakes and such you had back in the day. That will be a useful thing to post in the technical forum for the folks out there. That was a mighty useful compilation of part numbers. There could be a Sanders vanilla buttercream bumpy cake and some Vernors in it for the wife !!!!! Its a Detroit thing guys!!! GE's wife is from this neck of the woods, how she ended up in NC, I'll never know. How she ended up with GE, I'll never understand !!!
  6. Will do...just been so busy this weekend, I have not had time to post them. Rest assured, I have plenty between me and JUSTA. I am sure notallthere took plenty. I even got one especially for Havoc.
  7. Yeah time to change the speedo.....I can't wait to see Professor's reaction too.....and there goes the forum !!!!
  8. I read someone had an 8-lug front disc set-up for the big cars. I have to research this. Also, if you convert your rear to a 5-lug, you will probably have to switch out your axle shafts too. That can start to get really expensive. Let me do some looking around.
  9. I am still quite jealous that you can get her out and run her around nearly as often as you like stratman. Mother Nature is not that nice to us up here in the North country.
  10. There is a story behind every car my friend. I don't consider it a sob story, it is life. You are being a caring friend. I do understand sentimental value of a car that to others may not be worth so much. I applaud you on your desire to get the car running to take kids for ice cream. I use my Lemans for such mundane things too. I would encourage you to take some pictures of what you find as you try to follow our advice and let us know how it goes. The fact that you replaced the cam and timing chain and gears also makes me wonder if perhaps timing chain gears were installed out of alignment. I will talk about that more once you try everything else we've suggested.
  11. Nice '84 with the Aero package and T-Tops to boot. Great looking 3rd gen.
  12. I like the fact that it is: A. Not your typical small block Chevy V8 B. It used an entire transverse Oldsmobile Toronado driveline - quite original engineering there C. Man...its got a blower !!!!!!!!!!! D............in a Fiero !!!!!
  13. They figured that one already GE. Thanks for the confirmation though....I think.
  14. Careful stratman - you will get more than you bargained for. GE is way into guitars.....being a former roady for Alice Cooper and all. Yeah, he is that into guitars. Almost worst than cars. The only difference is the guitars are allowed in the house. In fact, I know there is a YouTube video of GE on stage with Alice a few years ago when he came through Charlotte. There is also a reason the boys over at Petty's garage call him the Deerslayer too. I found that out first hand at last year's Detroit Autorama.
  15. Hmmmm.....yes and no. Pontiac may not have kept track of things AM-FM radio with fade, I know they kept track of the larger options, like engine and transmission. Jim Mattison, the owner of PHS lives here in Michigan. If I see him either at Autorama or at a car club meeting, I will ask him about it.
  16. GE - its been a long time since WAYWO buddy!!!! That dang stump water still of yours have the same ol' rot gut flavor???? If you still have all them Pontiac part numbers? This would be the place to post them too ! A couple of other folks you know are here too.....I JUSTA ain't going to spoil that surprise.
  17. Nope - we ain't above freezing for that.....yet.
  18. Autorama is tomorrow for JUSTA, notallthere, Indymanjoe, and I !!!!! It opens today !!!!
  19. This is not your typical Fiero. notallthere - buddy - does this give you any ideas?????? >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65-VhSWspVE
  20. In a perfect world, cylinder #1 and #8 are closest to the firewall in a properly installed HEI distributor. So at TDC for #1, the rotor should be facing towards the firewall. If it is facing the motor, then the distributor is clearly 180 degrees out and that would be easily fixed (and probably the source of your troubles - or at least a large percentage). If you have the cam card specs, that will give you a clue to your timing needs. A stock Pontiac engine likes between 6-9 BDTC for initial timing (no vacuum advance). It likes typically 36 degrees of total timing (give or taken a couple of degrees based on cam/heads/etc.) all in around 1800-2700 RPM. You can test your vacuum advance by disconnecting the vacuum line from the carb and sucking on it and seeing if you can see the diaphragm move or the advance in the distributor move (means you have to remove the rotor and cap to see it). Also inspect the rotor and cap for corrosion, pitting or wear. A leaky carb can soak the spark plugs and inhibit them from firing, as well as flood the motor. Also, a carb that is not providing fuel will obviously cause a no-start condition. Check your in-line fuel filter and make sure it is not clogged as well. So give me some background on your engine project. What made you decide to tear into the motor in the first place? What work did you actually do? You said the engine was running before the tear down. How well was it running at that time? The HEI is clearly not stock to the motor since HEI came along in the 70s. They are wider that the original '66 distributor because they incorporate the coil directly into the cap. Did you switch to HEI simply to get away from the points? My '72 is a non-HEI distributor but I run a Petronix Igniter II kit that is a breakless kit that replaces the points, but keeps the stock look. Petronix now sells the Igniter III kit. They also sell their own brand of stock looking distributors. So if you determine you need to replace your current HEI distributor, you have some choices to make.
  21. Which ones are sideways? I will download them, rotate the sideways ones, and then compare them to my shop manual. it will take a few days only because I am as busy as crap with my son getting ready for high school baseball try outs in 2 weeks and I have to schlep him everywhere for practice.
  22. Can you show some more detailed pictures and describe your problem in a more detail please? Is this happening after disassembling the frames to paint/detail them? Is this happening as the cable tightens? Are the bushing in good shape? Is the pump and electrics work properly and evenly?
  23. Here are a couple worth looking at buddy!!! Sucks that you have to think about replacing it in the first place !!! http://www.ebay.com/sch/Cars-Trucks-/6001/i.html?_nkw=solstice+gxp&_vxp=mtr http://richmond.craigslist.org/ctd/4908588214.html http://richmond.craigslist.org/ctd/4908588214.html http://fredericksburg.craigslist.org/cto/4903460502.html http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4876241616.html
