Flea Market Finds

Featured Replies

I stopped at a local flea market near my house today. I have driven past it for a long time now and I had some free time this afternoon to stop and look around. I was not looking for anything in particular, perhaps some future airbrush project or some man cave item, but imagine my pleasant surprise at the two treasures that I found and how much I paid for them.

First up is a reproduction Pontiac Factory Engineering Parts sign. These have recently come on the market in the last year. The sign cost $9.00. Done. Sold. It's mine!

Next was to find an original, Flint Michigan-made, AC Spark Plug brand PF-30 oil filter. There is some surface rust on the top mounting surface which I will use Evaporust from Eastwood on it the next time I am at my buddy Brit's place to work on the '68 Impala. It was priced at $5.00! Deal! The "Action Auto" label on the box still read $6.75 on it. Action Auto has been out of business for awhile now. I am always on the look out for original, Flint made, AC oil filters and spark plugs - PF-24s and PF-25s oil filters for the Lemans and Trans Am respectively. To run across the PF-30 is a real find since AC Delco stopped making the PF-30 filters along with the PF-25s several years ago. The PF-25 is now replaced with the smaller PF-454. I can still find a PF-24 now and then at Auto Zone or O'Reillys but they are not a popular brand around here anymore and they are not made in Flint anymore either. In fact, I wonder if newer AC Delco filters are even made in the USA at all.

So there is a couple of morals to this story. The first is be aware of the parts you need or want, you never know when you may find them. Second, if you find them at such a ridiculously low price, buy them right right on the spot - argue with the wife later if you must. Don't think about it, or it won't be there when you come back. That's why I like going to swap meets and garage sales. So today's catch cost me $14.80 with sales tax. Such a deal !

good looking sign.

Great find. Buddy called me from a shop on Dixie this weekend and there is a Royal Pontiac L/plate holder hangin on the wall. He was wondering if I wanted it for the GTO.

I think that would be a damn fine addition to the GTO, in my opinion. How much is this place asking for it?

Nice where is this and are they open next Saturday?

This is off I-69, near my house. It's an old Harley Davison dealership building that has been converted into a antique store / flea market. They have about 30 flea market vendors on Saturdays too, selling various items and junk too.

25.00 with an old plate in it.

Might be worth it. Is it a re-pop of the Royal Pontiac frame or does it look like an old original? Come to think of it, did Royal Pontiac ever have original license plate frames back in the day?

Have not had the chance to get in there yet. Would look cool on my front plate.

Now that's cool! If you find any more, let notallthere and I know. I think we'd like some too. How about the North Woodward Drageway stickers? For you noobs to Woodward, it is classic Detroit humor.

I met this guy from Cadallac MI that has a vendor tent. Sells everything from metal signs to neon (like garage art) He had a rack of retro stickers. Thats where I got the 3D Pontiac emblem sticker I used for my package tray too. He doesn't have a website. He wanted a place to set up for Woodward. I got him a great vendor space price in LOT 9. Then he dropped the ball with Joe from the Oakland press and made me look bad. His contact # isn't in my notebook. I will have to dig in my trashcan of receipts for the GTO N see if he is in there.

Suddenly having problems posting here. Have to edit, then resubmit my text to get it to go. Hope this works, wouldn't let me edit to your reply
