Installing a 8 Speed auto Transmission in your Pontiac 8HP

I am looking to install a 8HP transmission in my second gen Trans Am. The ZF 8HP is a highly acclaimed 8-speed automatic transmission designed by ZF Friedrichshafen in Germany. Widely considered one of the best automatic transmissions ever made, it is revered for its lightning-fast shifts, superior fuel efficiency, and ability to handle massive amounts of torque. The computer to shift it is here: For a plug-and-play installation tailored for a classic, carbureted engine, the Sound German Automotive (SGA) 8HP Transmission Controller Kit is the gold standard.

I know the adapter to mount it to the engine is here: https://www.adamat.com.pl/en/pontiac-400-kit-for-dodge-challenger-charger-hellcat-zf-8hp70-8hp90.html

Has anyone done this swap yet?

I haven’t Cole , but I am installing a 6l80e and I know I have to change my rear end gears to 3.64 or the over drive ratios will make my engine run at to lower revs

You doing a 8 speed will encounter the same issue

Keep us posted with your swap 👍

And funny that I justA bought a new Chinese van ! It’s Ldv g10 and it has this transmission !!!!

image.jpeg

It’s powered by a turbo charged petrol 2.0l engine and it’s changed gears 4 times justA going through a set of traffic lights !

But where I find it really good

Is up hill pulling power !!!!

It’s the 8hp50

You will be wanting the 8hp90

Likes in my 2016 hellcat !

And you will certainly be cutting your tunnel out to make it fit ! They are way bigger, unless you are using the 8hp75

Which will fit

But only justA

ANYONE tried to install one in a second gen firebird? Adapter supplier indicated a guy in CA ordered one. The adapter is sold tru sales@seemslegitgarage.com, or Seemslegitgarage.

They indicate the adapter takes 6 weeks to build and cost $1575.

I need to know how it fits the tunnel and ground clearance for the pan.....

You are asking a very obscure question about something that is unlikely to have ever been accomplished. There are places that make 3D printed plastic mockup engines and transmissions for all manner of automotive powertrain equipment - for maybe $300-400 USD. These would greatly assist you.

When you do an obscure swap like this, you must accept the risks of being first with so little aftermarket support. All I can offer you at this point is a tape measure and a notepad. Without a plastic mockup engine and plastic ZF 8HP transmission, you are left with your own "imagineering".

Thanks, I'm looking for someone with experience in doing this swap. You are not the guy. It's been done enough times they are producing engine adapters for it. It's been done. I would like a conversation with that person.
