55 pontiac cheiftain- barn find.

this 55  cheiftain was in the neighbors barn when he bought the building 3 years ago, then it sat outside till I found it.  finally convinced him I would restore it and it wouldnt have to rust outside anymore. Was able to get it running after flushing gas tank and a new battery, runs smooth and quiet.  appears to really have the 48,00 miles on odometer. So far I have redone all the brakes- all new wheel cylinders, brake lines and hoses and rebuilt the master cyl. Has a good pedal now.  the rt lower control arm was badly rusted, to the possibility of the spring popping down. it was kind of troubling me. I removed spring and control arm, cleaned and welded it stronger and able to hold the shock.  the rest of the frame and suspension is in good condition, rocker panels and doors solid also.  I found lots of rust and big hole in drivers floor board, so that was next project, My son had a repair panel from another vehicle and it was close enough to retrofit with lots of seam sealer. I have posted some pictures but dont have them in right order. I posted in here about needing hood springs- my hood wouldnt stay up.  55 chevy ones wont work and couldnt find any available for pontiac.  I got creative and found some mower deck or trampoline springs which fit inside my springs and they were enough to keep my hood up, cheap fix for that.   I pulled the front seat out to access the floor repair better and it is on my workbench waiting to be recovered.  Seat rails were bent and a ball bearing missing, I was able to straighten and repair them with some torch heat and a wrench.  While waiting for new front end parts, electric choke, and tailshaft and pinion seal I removed the drive shaft and found rear u- was binding, so ordered that also.   My tires had good tread but all had flat spots so I chose some 235x70x15s to replce them. I wrestled with the rear tires to fit them under the fender lip, and there was no way the get them on without unbolting shocks and dropping rear axle.  I did not want to do that every tire change so with some searching on shock mount charts I discovered 1968-1977 VW bus shocks would bolt right on and are 3 inches longer allowing easy tire install.  Have owned this car for only about a month and need to see if I can register it before I get in too deep.  I have VIN verification and am registering it as an abandoned vehicle.
