Bonne61's had a few more upgrades

Hey there,

Just thought I'd share some recent improvements to my car, just in time for the busy season, too...photos included for those that care 😊

1. Built a coolant recovery system for the car. Bought a black aluminium tank from eBay, and with a handful of fittings, some hose and a bit of imagination, success was mine! Coolant loss is now negligible (add a bout a cupful every few thousand miles, unlike prior when I was going through about ½ litre every few drives 👏

2. Put together a home made pcv system - fantastic. No more oil seepage from the filler caps, no more oil vapours, no more oily smells in the car, especially when cruising on a hot day 🤙

3. Finally (it's taken me almost 12 months to get this done, for a few reasons), had a dual master cylinder and booster upgrade fitted. What a difference - the car stops a lot better with much less pedal effort, and when you stomp on it - damn it pulls up. May not stop like discs, but I'm very happy with the outcome. And, I now have some redundancy in case of any issues. When driving around normally, the car takes hardly any more effort to pull up than most modern cars, which is very surprising 😎

4.  The ride height has finally been sorted too, which I feel is a great balance between looks and drivability. Added to the new front sway bar the car feels a lot more stable at higher speeds, and corners much better (sits flatter, with minimal body roll) 😈

And yes, the skirts are going back on 🙄 I just wanted to make sure it was all ok before refitting them (because quite honestly they're a pain in the arse to take on and off) 🤬

Good to see the old bomb is still consuming dollars. They sound like useful upgrades. I should have installed HD springs in mine and only lowered it a touch. It steers nice but go over an undulation at highway speed and she floats before settling down again.

My own dual curcuit master is still sitting in the shed - at least the shed will stop safely.

Yes it's still got a little black hole I haven't found, although that seems to be closing itself up a bit these days.

Update - adjusted the brakes today and took it out for a proper test, as by the mechanic who installed the gear. Decided to leave my usual passenger at home for the experience. She's never been a fan of my BLAT approach to braking on a motorcycle - pretty sure she'll hate it in a 2 ton car 😁

Damn, it stops hard! With an whole lot less effort too. @fitzy, you should get yours done...especially if you foot is still floppy 🤣

Floppy Foot Update:

It's still floppy. Peroneal nerve damage can take 12 months to heal. I have no idea what I did to bring it on but I have learnt that lowest lumbar disc is almost gone and that's how nerves get trapped. I keep drinking beer but it doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps more beer?

You may rest assured that as I drive for a living, my ability to drive is thankfully still intact.

Maybe you've said it yourself mate...if you drive for a living, perhaps all that time in a seat has caused or at least contributed to the problem?

Yes, thought of that. Only now do I realise just how much sitting we do. I can only do the exercises I've been given and keep rolling along.
