This Zoo is just maybe 12 minutes from me in my city and has made world wide news now. A not so smart individual that was third party contractor at the zoo and only supposed to be just cleaning restrooms and the gift shop jumped a fence to get close to a tiger enclosure and the tiger grabbed his arm through the fence.

This is our county's sheriff office which was the first responder on the scene and he had to shoot the tiger to get it to release the individual's arm. Sheriff asked for a tranc dart gun. Zoo didn’t have one available because the zoo wasn’t open to the public at the time but even then, it doesn’t take effect for some time on large animals like this when they’re riled up so the guy could have died in that time. (That policy likely gonna change)

I have no idea if a taser or pepper spray would be effective but I don’t think the sheriff was in a position to wait if he didn’t think so. Which, even though I feel so sorry for the animal as it wasn’t his fault, shooting in that scenario is the right move as who knows what damage was done to the human and if he’d survive going through a taser or pepper spray attempt.

I, personally, think it would be more than fair to have that guy wait for a progression attempt in this scenario as he did something utterly wrong that resulted in an animals death but I don’t think that would be the right call in terms of saving human life.

Sorry, but i don't agree.  The Tiger was not violently trying to rip the idiots arm off.  It was laying still with its mouth clamped on his arm.  You saw the same vid I did.  Here in northern states, it's recommended for hikers, hunter's ect to carry BEAR spray.  (pepper spray)  With a range of over 20ft, it's like wasp or hornet spray.   Same with the taser.  Stood a really good chance of knockin the idiot on his ass too, but would have been able to pull his arm out.  Don't get me wrong....I will defend our Police against any /all of todays cancel culture bull$hit, but in this case a couple more minutes to try something else would have been appropriate.

Good point! Is the bear spray a higher concentration than pepper spray police carry? I have no personal experience with that so no clue, everything is based off reading in my nights that I can’t sleep right now.

I just saw the blood everywhere and don’t know how long till he bled out. That was my concern there. Could not be.

There was room to grab a belt, wire, hunk of rope, whatever and get a tourniquet started.  I can sit here and 2nd guess someone elses decision all day.  Comes down to what was going through the mind of the officer at an incredibly stressful moment.   

I hope the ASPCA or PETA goes after this dumb ass, and sues the living hell out of him.
