What the Hell is That?

 

A little back story. 2005 Malibu (close your eyes and pretend I said Pontiac) recently has issues with the door key during freezing temps.  Key will turn to lock easy enough, but jams a little over a quarter way into the unlock direction. During the latest thaw, I managed to get it open and tear off the door panel. Inside, feeling the rod from the key lock while turning the key ... feels real 'grindy' turning in both directions. Can't recall at the moment, but I think the unlock direction pushes the rod down. Sprayed WD40 in to disperse any residual water .. intend to white grease everything come the next warm day. But in the bottom of the door .. I found these two characters. Both are severely cracked. Dunno what they're for or where they belong. Both have a flat side with some fine fuzz which I suspect was once adhesive now covered in dust. Anyone have any idea ... and could they be the reason for my lock trouble?

I can think  they might be used for one of two reasons. First possible reason would be to locate and support the locking rod in position within the door in order for it to move properly as the key, manual door lock switch, power door lock button, or remote key less fob button are pushed - thus moving the rod. My second guess would be insulators and/or guides for the door glass to prevent the glass from contacting the sides or bottom of the door and breaking.

The top piece is, I believe, a lock rod bumper, part number 15144942. The second piece I’m not sure of, but the end with duel arrow end appears to get pushed into a slot. So you might look for a slot inside the door, either in the framework or the internal hardware that matches that size.

I think you've nailed the first one, Chief. Hard to see it in that bag, but definitely has the same curve.

 

Further researching your lead ... looks like it's a window part, not a lock part. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/RH-Front-Side-Window-Regulator-04-05-06-07-08-Chevy-Malibu-15781318-New-OEM-GM-/232201152688 Says it's a windows stop bumper.

I assume you mean the second part for the window regulator? If so I, I wondered if the was the case as it looks like it would be a finger type bumper/buffer for glass.

Ok, yeah I see it now, (said the blind mouse). I’m still thinking the other one has some function for the window too.

Yeah, that fuzzy that I thought was dirty adhesive appears to be felt. So no help on sorting the lock to be found there.
