  1. spent a little time today just fixing small chips and dents around the body and tomorrow i have the front panels to sand and prime.... managed to score myself 4 more rattle cans of primer thanks to who you know NOT what you know😜
  2. wow!! you certainly had a major job with both camaros!!! i am impressed with your full Chassis on both cars, bet that made a difference to handling too ! i had a 75 lt and it had the same big bumpers as your wife 74, with that great big leaf spring behind the ally. i read some where how in 72 over 110k camaros where crushed after thay didnt meet the new frontal impact rules, guess that is why the big bumpers. not sure who true that was ...🙄
  3. mate, i am so impressed with the craftsmanship have every done a thread on how you go about making your wheel and trim?? i would certainly be interested on the process
  4. Haha, phone cameras tells soooo many lies mate !! a nice coat of high build primer and a wet sand will get rid of them... even the wife says it looks fantastic!!.... when are you fixing the front she goes.... i reply.... when i get my CHASSIS !! its just a bloody neat car Last Indian, it is my very first pontiac but its so gm, which makes it so basic to understand how every thing is put together. What gets me with this car is the hi po engines from factory !! and those big ali finned drum brakes... just sooo cool 😋 oh and the steel .... so easy to work with!!!
  5. Haha, i clicked !!! very cool Justa, Last Indian, i always wanted a gen 1 camaro.!! have had 2 gen 2s and they are pretty cool too, my orange girl is a 72 model and here is the ram, i bought off a importer mate of mine who scored it out of Ca, he paid next to nothing for it, its a 96 four wheel drive model with the 360, and i love it, its big its tuff and man... i have towed some stuff with it and sooo easy!😋 shes done 380k miles before i got her, has had a new motor, gear box and god knows what else before i got her. original paint, which i will not touch.. it so cool to have the patina. the boss keeps going on at me to repaint it but i dont want to, once you paint it its not original. it has no rust except what you can see on the rear. Up till 2 years ago we used her to tow our retro caravan, and spent many weekends at the beach with our mate on the turps! and my vinson 500 fits nicely on the back with the tail gate closed, fishing gear loaded up, konkiki etc you will note Harry is in and ready to head to the beach !!!
  6. i would add my 2 cents worth. if you have a original battery lead too you starter, replace it and replace your earth cable from battery to body and body to engine. but i am with the guys, ten bucks says it heat sink. gm starters get old, tired and if the heat shield is missing, you will get this exact delema oh and i too swear buy mini starters.. of good quality companies tho !! and you will never have the heat sink issue again! years ago late at night me and my girl friend at the time got stuck on pork chop hill, thanks to a over heated starter in my first 56 chev !... i was not complaining one bit !!😜😋
  7. Spent the day sanding and priming and i still think its rough, it will need spray putty to get all the sand marks out, rattle cans just dont cut it for coverage. i need a couple of litres of Real primer!! but i am using what is on hand 😜 i did fishoilene the inner fender just to make sure it doesn't rust 👍 And got the drivers door smoothed out too, same thing, i need filler primer to get all the scratches out.
  8. Yeah justa6 i am a devoted petrolhead and have been since i was a kid, early days it was all 56 chevs and dirt track racing old cars ( mostly old holdens) and then i just sort of started to stop selling and just buying and keeping them. I have one more that i will post, and it is my favorite baby.. i went to New York too a car show especially to see it released and it took 2 years to get my hands on one, and i aint never selling it. The rest are not worthy of this web site ( no one wants to see a old dodge ram or escorts, cortinas minis and mazdas) got any pictures of your Ute ??? Holden just got canned by gm so its kind of like Pontiac now... collector items👍
  9. Your dead right Two lane ! i made the patch panel as close as possible to butt fit and i dame near didnt need filler rod... and Yes, when i can i am going to buy myself a foot pedal👍
  10. we are paying $2.19 per litre. = $8.29 gal can anyone send me a drum or 2 @ your prices !!! oh, and add 100% just for a nice kick back i dont mind, it will still be wayyyyy cheaper 🤑
  11. Right from the start of this build i have been customizing the ute and here in NZ if you modify a car it will need to go through a certification system to legally register it to go back on the road And we are very lucky to have the hobby car Technical manual... its the street rodder/ custom car builder bible. it tells you what you can and cant weld, how to do everything correct including materials to use. And a shit load more. makes life way easier, so you dont have to do things twice !! once you have it all done, a certifier will do an inspection and you get a certification plate attached to the vehicle. job done !👍
  12. I really enjoyed tig welding in this patch, i had bugger all heat distortion and i could move the panel unlike when i used to mig my patches, which meant i can get it so flat that i am using less than a mil of filler.... and this patch is going to be under a big Chrome trim panel.... thing is... i know its there!!, so i am a little fussy just for my own thing.😋 i enjoy building them just as much as driving them Tomorrow i am going to level out the imperfections with filler and i found 3 rattle cans of primer, so i will sand the whole fender and prime it.
  13. From there, it was a custom built turbo 350 trans, custom driveshaft and i had my good mate build a 9 inch with disc for the rear, chassis got full rebuild with all new parts front and rear, set of boyd coddington junk yard dogs 17inch ( got to remember this work was done over ten years ago) and at the time some rear dumb race seat!! ( watch this space)😜 i rewired the whole thing, which was easy, b and m shifter and some stock pacemaker header ( watch this space)😜 next week i am going pull it out of storage and show you what it looks like and i plan to get some work done, or what i can do with what i have on hand. i might even try to fit some glass myself 😦
  14. at this time i was an executive for the new zealand hot rod association and would do all the nation wide events, judging etc and i met a guy who would become a life long mate. he had a model A coupe he built for his partner and built a race engine for it and it was simply too hot for street use. one night we where bench racing at a bar in Aucland and he said he was pulling the motor to fit a better street version, and i asked what he would do with the big dollar motor. He offered it to me at a really silly number and i said "mate you must be joking" And left it at that.... a year later i get a call, : mate you want that motor???, i said yeah but not in the gold plated version!! He then offered to de tune it.... street manifold, cam and heads... and a much better number, so i said yes. What i got was a small block 400, with less than 200 miles on it, steel crank, forged pistons with all internals fully balance (Trust me it makes a huge difference to the way it revs) fully blue printed and he fitted double hump fuelies with a dual plain manifold.( port matched) i went up to his place to get it and once i fitted it into the ute, he came down and tuned it.. i am not sure if i can put up a video here but to hear this thing, is bloody awsume !!! i live in the country and when i start it i get calls from my neighbors about how hot the ute sounds from a distance ( got petrolhead neighbors)👍😋
  15. it is a 1972 Holden belmont with factory 173 cube inch straight 6, very simliar to the 60"s chevy motor, but Holdens version, with a 3 on the tree box and bango ltd slif diff. Rust wise, it wasnt too bad (for a Holden) !!! These things where work horses and very basic. 14 inch wheels, A arm front end pretty much like a gen 2 Camaro, manual steering. Oh but full chassis and the tray is fully galvanized so together we striped all the paint off and cut out all the rust and got it to primer stage. Sent it off to my mates paint shop where it sat for nearly 2 years, but it was worth it. when we got it back it was show level workmanship, the colour is custom with a fine flake in the green

    The Q

Since we are in lock down, i am working on what cars i can with what i have and this is the one car i have been avoiding for some time now. but what happened was the 64 Pontiac got offered to me and i just could not let it get scraped !! so the ute got put back on the back burner again.😞
  17. Ah yes Justa6... a nice cold corona extra ice cold with a slice of lime would go down real nice right now but the boss has me building selves... so i might just wait till in am finished or i will stuff them up !! hahaha
  18. Haha, yes i have had lots of time to think about how to attack it Frosty, its the tig welding that is challenging me, years of fusion welding have helped but i really think i need to buy a foot controller so i can modulate that heat. Boy if i had my chassis!! things would be much easier! and yes... just after i took those pics it was time for a beer... Speights isnt my flavor, but similar to my Draught beer called export 33 ( low carb beer) having said that i do like my Heineken
  19. Next was to remove the rust and fit a patch panel... i am using my new tig welder and still learning how to use it, way less heat than fusion welding and way easier to panel beat than what i used to do with my mig welder.. oh and had to cut in the trim holes as this fender was not off a bonny so it didnt have the correct mounts for the chrome along the bottom you never stop learning in this world !!😜
  20. So, today's mission was to head to town and get groceries.... well that was fun... long ques and just plain weird, never seen our town so dead quiet😦 but got most of what we need and really happy to back at home !!👍 Then... i get to do my stuff... smoothed out the dents in the front of the fender...by making a profile from my good fender, then made the new left hand one look the same. its the best i can do with out mounting anything,,,in a real world i would be fitting the fender to the body and then twigging it, but with my frame still bent, it justa nota gona worka 😋
  21. My next job is to sort a new fender for the passenger side, i have 2 and both need work... question is which one, so i made the decision and i am going to fix the white one i have made a bit of a plan and here are the areas that need attention i took the old fender off the car, as i thought i could use the rear lower section for a patch panel, the bottom bolt under the rear of the fender spin the caged nut!!!!! so i had a few choice words... then hit the mother f__ _ker with the grinder this just reminded me what justa6 was saying about the fun of removing the chassis!...looks like i will have more fun to come ! then once i had the fender off, the same area was rusty, so it was usless to me. time for plan "B"... make a patch panel form scratch. best part about this is tomorrow is another day and as long as i do the jobs the boss wants done first, i get the best part of all afternoon to do my stuff We are in day 6 of a 30 day complete lock down, told to stay at home. this whole thing is like being in a movie
  22. gee two lane your pussy has it sorted!!! we could do with him here!, its autumn and we have bloody mice coming inside, every day!!😡 a while back we had a rat, and i just couldn't catch him, so i laid bait.... 4 days later the wife came screaming out of the house yelling get that FORDing thing out of there!!!! it had internally hemorrhaged and died in my daughters room, under a pillow on her bed!!! 🤢 we have never told her!!! hahaha so tell that pussy if he doesnt shape up... ship him to me and he can have a job !! 👍
  23. or little Harry dogs !! 😦 glad we dont have anything here that can eat you!! haha
