New Starter Winding Sound

Recommended Posts

I put in a re-manufactured starter on my 95' TA with the LT1.

The car starts fine and runs fine, but when she's cranking it sounds like a weird whining sound, similar to a screeching fan belt. But the car starts smooth and runs smooth.

I thought maybe it wasn't lined up with the flywheel but I talked to a mechanic buddy of mine and he said that it'll go away after the starter is used enough. Says its the sound all new starters make? Any input or advice?

Thanks!

All of the starters I have changed all sound like the old ones before they broke. If you can get a clip of the start I might be able to tell more.

Agreed. I never had a new starter, out of the box, remaned or new, make a strange noise like what you are describing.

Did you install a MOPAR starter? LOL

 Number one thing I remember my Dad saying about Chrysler products, "It's not that I don't like their car as a whole, I just hate that ungodly noise their starters make. Makes the whole car sound like it's about to die."
