Today Toyota I say F You

Today the air conditioning in the Vibe stopped working. No biggy I had a clutch in the garage as I knew these were problematic on these cars from time to time. Mine made noise last year but it was just a little dirt that got stuck in the clutch. I cycled it off and on and the dirt came out. So today I started to tear out the bolts and plastic thingys that hold the undercarriage together to discover that part of the clutch had fallen off. I have heard of the bolt backing off and it does happen.

But:

Who the hell uses an M5 bolt to keep an A/C clutch onto a compressor. The bloody thing sheared off. Instead of just swapping out the clutch I may now need a new compressor.

Replacing an a/c compressor? NOPE.

Unfreaking believable dude!!!! When will you know the verdict on the compressor?

Okay Canadian price for a new compressor $880.00 with no warrantee.

United States price for a new compressor $451.00 with no warrantee.

Both want the condenser and the dryer replaced at the same time.

I may eat the 10.00 core charge and try to extract the bolt myself on a bench. Spare compressor would be nice to have lying around for the car.

You will have to tell my how Iggy went later. Can you drill out the bolt and tap/re-tap the threads? I am not surprised about the dryer but the condenser does not make as much sense. The dryer is considered contaminated when you expose it to the open environment after it has been used. I fail to understand why the condenser needs to be replaced.

no clue. I am going to drill out the bolt. I may have someone in Toronto willing to buy it for 250.00.

As for the other parts it is just what the parts guy told me that the other parts need to be replaced at the same time for the warrantee.
