1970 Pontiac LeMans Interior Restoration

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 1970 Pontiac LeMans with a 455 that I'm restoring. The transmission is currently being rebuilt, and I just replaced all of the rear suspension, so soon I'll start on the interior.

It has a bench in the front and the back, and the front seats have tears in the leather. I don't think they can be restored. But I can't find seat covers for this for some reason. They all have either two bucket seats or a bench with an armrest, which mine is neither. It's a bench with two separate folding mechanisms so you can get into the back seat. Do I have to get those custom made? The color is Bermuda Blue Metallic on the inside and outside (Color codes 25/25).

Also, the dash is very cracked. I could possibly fix it with bondo but I doubt it would look good. I got a quote from "Just Dashes" and they said $1700-$2000, not including shipping. If I have to spend that kind of money I will, but are there any cheaper options?

The carpet has one hole in it, as well as the headliner, but I figure those could be patched or just ignored for now.

The doors and steering wheel are in pretty good condition thankfully.

Any feedback would be much appreciated, and I'll attach pictures here.

Nice looking car.  A mat from the "Dash Mat" people will cover a lot of that up.

The two biggest interior reproduction shops are Legendary Auto Interiors and PUI (Parts Unlimited Interiors). I would contact them to see what they have for bench seat replacement covers.

I suggest OPG, you can buy complete kits saving bucks.  I bought much of the interior for my GTO through them. (very happy)  We have had members recently complain about OPG.  Just giving you as much info as possible.  Tried my hand at upholstery and my seats all came out nice for a rookie.  You can order a catalog.

On my 73 Lemans Safari with a bench seat I ended up finding a good local recovering shop, I bought the material from a Vender, and the shop reproduced the seat covers to about 95% accurate. I also had them make some reproduction door cards for my 1977 Astre.

Unfortunately full bench seat cars are very seldom restored, so it is not really profitable to offer seat covers for the 1 or 2 you may sell in that color. I don't know what part of the country you are in, but most places near big cities have reupholsterry  shops.

I agree with Justa and cammerjeff. The thing I will say about OPGI is they are most likely reselling either Legendary or PUI material. However if either is out of stock, OPGI may have it in stock.

We are at the end of March and my 68 fender patch panels that were ordered the first week of January are still on back order !!! Thanks opg !

Original Parts Group never took my money if it was on back order, but they have not always had a good idea of stock levels of things I have ordered. OPG has also been very, very forgiving to me on things I have needed to return.

I have no problem with the company and could not have built my El Camino without them.
