So the kickoff of the Back to the Bricks in Flint was last night.  Widetracker club met up with a great parking spot. After some "seek N find" caught up with the group and waited for Frosty to arrive.  IndyJoe backed out.  Quick HI to the club members and welcome home to our club President who has had some extremely serious health issues.  We were heading to cruise the Bricks.  Hard start to Frosty's car and I was gonna back his timing off a bit on his 455.  We didn't have the correct tools.  Brings up the question of how to get around the heater hose to get to the timing hold down.   My timing hold down wrench is in the GTO at home of course.  Can see Frosty posting a thread on this.  Anyway took a lil over a half hour to get to Flint/Bricks, (normal 10min trip) I turned around and Frosty went in search of his brother.  2hrs later I'm not back to the club parking yet.  Floor of the car is burning up, engine temp is 160 (thankz again to the new fan I installed)   Need to close/latch the hood after showing off the hydraulic's,  and pull the headlight covers.  Lights show through, but not enough to safely drive the backroads without proper lighting. We also have a deer playin in the road problem here.  So stop to get gas and take care of the rest and the car will not start.  I have lights, power but not even a click.  Hooked up my jump box and battery is full charge.  Starter got too hot.  Now imagine two old people pushin the car to POP start it.  That didn't work well,  got help a number of times, but still no start. Compression is waay to high.  Nobody else to call,  Frosty to the rescue.  No tow strap, he did offer to drive us home N leave the car at the gas station.  Yea NO.  Give Momma a ride home and I'll sleep in the car if necessary til a flatbed truck shows up.  He did have 2 brand new RoadKill ratchet straps. Never tried to POP start a car in reverse.  This Justa breaks ratchet straps.  I did have 1 unbroken strap, let's see if we can break that one too.  Hooked it to the front and tried POP startin in 3rd gear.  NOPE but hit the key with the POP and it turned over N fired up.....Whew.   Got home, backed in the garage.  Shut it off, JUSTA for shit's n giggles tried to start it N nope.  Side note... 44 years and it's never been on a tow truck.  Always been able to find a way to limp it home.    Frosty....

Spent yesterday trying to figure out the draw on the battery.  Hooked up jump box, by the time I rolled out from under the car, the whole garage was filled with smoke,  rollin out the hole in the hood.  Batt charger was not working, used a trickle charger to get enough juice to open the hood latch and finally the hood.  Tried to inspect wiring to see how badly its burnt, couldnt see most of it and only the bottom.  Couldn't find a short situation.  Battery finally started charging.  Hit the key and it turned over,  let it charge and it fired up. checked by hand for heat or problems in main wiring. Started it many times and it seemed OK.  Off we go into the Woodward madness.  It was packed, drove about 4mi in stop/go traffic.  Got off headed home before it got dark. Didn't make it.  When I turned on the lights.....it died.  With a lil help from peeps around me, pushed it off for a second nite of stranded.  Was able to call my brother in law. Took about an hour on the jumper cables to fire the motor, no lights n drove to JustaG6's to park the car til this am.  Battery switch N drove it home between rain drops.  Thinkin it's the Altenator, Took over co-pilot from my daughter and cruised the Day in their 69 Rivera.  Dodging rain drops was the worse part of the day.  Rest was most excellent.

Translation:

Justa had all sorts of car problems with the Sunbird since Wednesday night. He effed around with it until late into the afternoon of the Dream Cruise. He finally got pissed off enough that he said eff this and hitched a ride with his daughter and son-in-law to the Dream Cruise.

Seriously, JUSTA has had some issues with the car. If his battery has gone to hell, I’m not so sure that he might have an alternator problem, I’ve suggested to him to have the alternator and battery checked. I had an S-10 Blazer that blew two batteries and a starter because the alternator failed.

Changed the battery to a fully charged (out of the GTO) to drive it home.  Made it with no probs, but gauge was only showing 8amp on both battery's.  Leads me back to ALT.  Need to do something quick. We have the Motorcity Widetrackers show next weekend.

Push comes to shove, put in a new stock alternator (granted it's not chrome or polished). That will get you home and back and you have a spare in case you need it. You can worry about replacing everything inside the chrome one when you have time this winter.

Chrome one is on the GTO.  Birds is hand polished.  Gonna try the GTO's and have the Birds checked before dismantling 2 cars.

This very rare Mint Turquoise Judge belongs to Tim Dye. It's probably the rarest color GTO or Judge for 1970. Not many were produced in this color.
