Trying to track down a 1965 Catalina

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am trying to track down my grandfather’s old 1965 Catalina 421 Convertible that was blue, nicknamed Betty Loo. My grandfather had it for a long time, dating back to the late 70’s/early 80’s I believe, possibly even earlier.

He was the second owner, and he sold it back in 2011 to someone that wanted to restore it. I was doing a random google search for Catalina’s yesterday and stumbled across a blog-type post showing Betty Loo going through the restoration process. It does say that it was sold after the 5-year long restoration.

I’m not sure where the car ended up or anything, but my hope is to track it down. I want to keep tabs on the car for a little while, and down the road once Im a bit older and have more money I would then want to buy it back so I can get the car back in the family.

The vin # is 252675P327626.

Attached are photos of it from both before and after restoration.

Depending on your state laws, many DMVs will let you do a VIN search for a fee. They may not tell you who the owner is for privacy reasons, but they can often tell you what city and state it is currently registered in or if it has been scrapped or totaled. From there you can narrow your search.
