As in the chemical periodic table ?

The elemental periodic table. Elements have atomic weight these weight determine where they fall in the table! These weights are relative to the number of neutrons & protons I each atom! The more neutrons the more radiation the element can generate!

you need to draw me a picture

how do you make the fission reaction ?

This gets a little involved! But non the less here goes! First you need, say uranium! What that means is like lots of elements in nature the uranium is mixed into other rock! So it must be mined, crushed, separated and made in to uranium 235! This is a involved process, but basically uranium 235 isotope goes from a natural .7 level to a 4.5 - 5 isotope pellet! That makes them very radioactive! When you expose enough of this pure material together the chain reaction of fission starts! The only thing that keeps it under control is cooling! Water is used to do this because a portion of the water is turned to steam which is used to drive a steam turbine! Which in turn drives a generator to make electricity!

I cannot disagree with what you say especially the part about morons in government. I personally adhere to the conspiratorial view of history. I happen to believe that there is a consortium somewhere that is influencing everything we do in one way or another. For instance take a close look at how we got involved it WW1 and 2. Those are the biggies but there are countless examples of things for which there seems to be no other explanation. Power generation definitely falls into that category. What little I have delved into the issue there is no logical reason for the path we are taking. It is certainly not reducing emissions the cost per KWH appears to be astronomical. The problem of waste disposal for the batteries wind farm blades, generator maintenance and all the other issues that have been discussed by people that are in a position to know is alarming. You will never convince me that the politicians are ignorant of this so who is pushing it? Hitler was undoubtedly the most vile person in recent history but he got one thing right. If you tell the people a lie often enough and forcefully enough it eventually becomes the truth.

Somewhere in this thread the question was asked who has their hand up Bidens a.. making his mouth move. My personal opinion is that it is Commie Laharris. She seems to have disappeared from the scene and I am always concerned when someone at that level disappears. What are they up to that they don't want us to know about?

Problem is that the peons at our level are generally stuck with choosing the lesser of 2 evils. Who or what is going to cause the least amount of trouble for us. Because the liberals control the school system they are not going to work at pumping out critical thinkers because they believe to their core that government is the answer to all issues.

Old man, from another old man there is a great underlying force causing all of this and has been for longer than any of us can imagine! We might disagree as to what that is, but I’m sure we would definitely agree there is something!
If you want chills to run up and down your spine? Read Revelation 8:10-11 it speaks of an angel named wormwood! Guess what, this is quite literally the event of Chernobyl! Chernobyl is the Ukrainian word for wormwood! Guess what else the number of people killed from Chernobyl has been hidden, but if you do a search, but you will have to look hard, you’ll find the death toll is actually in the millions & people are still dying to this day because of the contaminated water supply! So yeah you are right!

Had a few minutes waiting to leave for a doctors appointment so did a quick google search on solar/wind vs nuclear. It takes about 2000 wind turbines to equal one nuclear power plant which requires about 350 square miles of land. Its reliability is at best  35% because the wind is not always blowing. A solar installation would require 75 miles of land and only has a slightly greater reliability because at any given time half the earth is pointing away from the sun and the sun does not always shine. Today in So Cal the sun is hidden behind the clouds.

Nuclear on the other hand has a 98% reliability, only requires 1 1/3 miles of land. Further one uranium fuel pellet—about the size of a gummy bear—creates as much energy as one ton of coal, 149 gallons of oil or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas. A single nuclear power reactor generates enough electricity on average to power 755,000 homes without emitting any greenhouse gases—that’s more than enough to power a city the size of Philadelphia. In fact, America’s 94 nuclear plants produce enough electricity to power 75 million homes.

Don't know about anywhere else in the world but you mention constructing a nuclear power plant here and the environmentalists would raise a cry that could be heard halfway across the state. Why is that? because as has been observed many times in this discussion they have been fed a strict diet of that which falls from the north end of a south bound bull.

I went from total ignorance of the subject to having this much information in a 20 minute Google search. There is no way that any politician can claim ignorance of the subject. I can only ask how many dollars wind up in the pocket of some politician for every solar panel or wind generator that goes up.

So what is the alternative to nuclear? That subject has been discussed from every angle so far in this thread and I can not add anything to what has been said other than the politicians have no objection to powering the navy that is protecting their worthless butts with nuclear energy.

Understandably folks have a concern with nuclear, or at least fission! We have a bunch of idiots that run our country and really at every level! I wouldn’t trust them to babysit my dead hamster! So putting them in charge of an atomic bomb! Yeah I don’t know! Nuclear reactors of naval ships today are quite different than those of a nuclear power plant! But here’s  a thought! Since we have an idiot in the White House that wants to double our green solar energy from a whopping .99% to a laughable 1.8% by 2045 why don’t they put that effort into fusion reactors! We are close to a full scale working plant now! Try throwing all that bs effort at fusion and really accomplish something worthwhile! Fusion is a thousand fold safer, long term radioactive waste isn’t an issue and the plant size and space is about half that of fission! Truly what we might call a win win!

What gets me about this new government hair brain idea, is how the hell is charging a new tax on imported  cars is going to reduce co2 levels? its justA tax, the government will get money and then what? do yeah send that money off to the co2 buster team who jump in there old caddy ambo and go zap some nasty c02 ghosts!!! hell no. they stick the money in the wtf fund and claim they are doing the right thing for the environment!

Here is a crazy idea.... get all those cleaver scientists we have, you know the ones that split the atom... and invent a filter to remove the co2 from exhausts.

Better still justA come up with a fuel additive that converts co2 into some thing else, like, a solid liquid,  that then can be removed and be refined into paper towels for Politian's to use to clean up their dribble!.

That is my soap box speech for the week :picard:

Tune in next week when i bang on about how mr potatoe head has had a nervous break down over the latest media coverage and mrs potatoe head is fuming after all the  Dr Seuss books are removed from the local library

Kiwi, sorry my friend, but it’s just a pretense to take more money from the masses using a evil excuse! That when looked at by a reasonable mind, leaves you asking that very question; how does that help CO2? Oh! It doesn’t!

In a nut shell! We are all screwed! We are at their mercy with few options! Every last ounce of it is a lie! Worst yet they know it’s a lie since they are behind it, that I know for a fact! There are two major reasons! One, follow the money and two I can’t really say or most if not all will think I’m nuts! So let’s just follow the money. I said some of this in JustA’s “And so it begins-thanks Biden” 1000 years ago the Vikings where raising sheep & cattle on Greenland, you know where today the glaciers are melting! So we had no glaciers of any real relevance on Greenland a 1000 years ago! But guess what? 300 years later they abandoned those farms because of increasing sustained cold weather! Fact, look it up!

Our current CO2 levels are at about 410ppm compared to about 150 years ago they were at the upper 200ppm mark. But! And it’s a big one! Over the past 480 million years, of which through core samples at the Antarctic and fossils from around the world we know the those levels ran between 7000ppm down to 3000ppm, because CO2 is sequestered, with an average global temperature of 72 Fahrenheit irrelevant of the CO2 level! Which is higher than our current global temperature, but the point is the temperature remained steady regardless of CO2 levels! So we know that CO2 plays no role in temperature change! We also know that what does impact the temperature pattern is nothing we can change! Since they have to do with earths orbit patterns, magnetic pole strength, sun cycles, solar winds and a lot of other mind numbing reasons!

Electric cars! If it wasn’t so stupid scary it would be funny! There is more pollutants in making an electric car from cradle to grave than there ever was at any point in time of making a combustion engine car! Follow the money! It actually cost about a third of the cost to manufacture an electric motor as opposed to a combustion engine! The rest of the car, well it’s a car! Sheet metal, plastic, glass, upholstery, etc. so that’s a wash! Now the battery! Here’s where the money gets really interesting as well as obscure! Guess who owns 90% of all the lithium mines in the world! Here’s a clue they’re just a little northeast of you Kiwi! Now throw in the electric company’s who will now control not just the price of electric, but how much you use! You will do what they say and when they say! Don’t believe it? They are already putting automatic readers on electric meters that can also be used to shut your electric off! Fact! Solar panels! What a joke, but not funny! There are more caustic chemicals used to make enough solar panels to produce a single megawatt than a car manufacturers entire product line emits for an entire decade and than some! We know for a fact that petroleum has been used for at least 6000 years! We have been burning wood for that long as well! Yet you hear no one bitch about burning wood! Hmmm, I wonder why? Wood release by far more CO2 per btu than oil, but it also produces or releases dioxins in far greater quantities than any other substance! Guess what? Dioxins are second in toxicity right after nuclear waste! Fact! It take between.0006 to .045 mg of dioxin to be fatal, depending on body weight. A kilogram of hardwood with no bark can produce.0004 mg of dioxins! So why are we not restricting wood fires? Might be because they can’t make any real money off that, and they sure don’t care about your health!

No doubt we could go on for a long time, but as I said! We’re just plain screwed!!

Did I ever happen to mention that in Revelations 6:6 it says “do not harm the oil or wine”! Now anyone can argue what they will, but you can make fuel out of just about any oil, period! Food for thought!

    Hi everyone,

I noticed that my water pump was leaking when I put the car away for the winter, so now that it's starting to get a little warmer I thought I would replace it. When I went to find a replacement it looks like they come in two heights one is just listed as "standard" and the other is listed as a 4 15/32" (or 4.469") height. I have a 1969 G.T.O. with a 400 c.u. motor. Do I measure from the block to the where the fan mounts or the front of the pump to the fan mount?

    Thanks for any help.

Todd, you get that dimension by measuring from the gasket sealing surface of the pump to the mounting surface hub where the pulley mounts! An easy way to do that is take a straight edge across the hub flange, minus the pulley, and measure down to the gasket surface of the water pump.

I agree totally. but for checking cables wires and connections in circuits with some amperage draw this works good and also to determine if there is problem in the positive or negative side and if nothing else to rule out the wiring and connections, for temp gauge and fuel gauges in these older cars and a bunch of other things in newer cars a ohm meter is probably something you need to use.

We could probably start a whole new tread about this like 64 kiwi boni mentioned earlier since its a pretty lengthy subject,

Absolutely! JustA to be clear I use a ohmmeter all the time! I don’t know how you could do electrical work without one! I had a huge Fluke, it was an oscilloscope that has more functions than I knew how to use, these run several thousand dollars, so I ended up giving it to a good friend who does way more electrical work than me and I bought a smaller one for myself. But the point is you really need a meter or your JustA going to chase your tail no matter what or how you look for your problem!

We have already had our 2nd stimulus checks.   Same here, you can't buy appliances,  water heaters are a huge problem.  Replace a broken fridge??? Not gonna happen.  Even floor models are gone.  Our government is more worried about letting cross dressing fags use women's bathrooms, play on the girls sports teams, use the women's locker room and showers.

Copy that times two buddy! Don’t forget letting anybody in to the county JustA because they want to! No waiting! JustA come on in! Drug dealers, rapist, murderers, you name it! No I.D. Required!

  9. Voltage drop is just one test, but there are so many test you can run the real question is which test for what problem! The voltage drop you show in the video for starting for example really is inconsequential in the big picture of starting. More relevant battery cranking voltage drop! Typical battery cranking voltage drop on starting with a good battery will be from 12.6, for a well charged battery, down to 10. 2 to 10.4 volts. Anything lower than that means there are issues with the system, either on the plus side or the negative side. Now when you get into the less power consuming components like gages, heater, lights, etc.. Those need checked differently, but again newer cars are a whole different animal in what you check and how! For example the Indian (2000 Grand Prix) has five 12 volt supply wires to the ignition switch! But these 12 volt wires that supply the switch once inside the switch is divided into 20 small finger contact tumblers that in turn distributes that power to smaller wires that supply 12 volts to things like the heater, radio, wipers, gages, etc! If you mistakenly leave an accessory on like the radio, heater, etc. this, through repeated occurrences causes the finger contacts to burn, like a set of points! When this happens you can go from 12 volts to 1 volt! So a voltage drop at a component that doesn’t work or doesn’t work properly does little good!

There is a vent cap next to where the fuel goes in. I took it off and ordered a new one. It was probably clogged.

More than likely the vent cap is the issue! Usually what you described is actually a vacuum, not pressure, but it happens so fast when you loosen the cap it seems like pressure.

yip, your dead right JustA, when i had the sump off i was feeling pretty happy with the condition of everything, not so now that i have seen whats in the top...

compression test will be the next job and that will point me in the direction i need to go...

thing is i have had her running and she ran well.

But what a mess in the top!!!

Kiwi, the sludge that you described and showed is typical of short run cycles! This type of sludge is made up of a heavy emulsion of water condensate and engine oil vapor, mixed together and most often deposited in the upper end of an engine! I did lots of work and testing in this area looking for the best additive remedy to deal with short cycle, cold weather driving! This is or was a major problem in the northeast US; as well as areas with similar weather characteristics! Since you really don’t know the condition of the motor, one additional step you could take to try and reduce the cost and labor duration would be this!
For the initial startup get a bottle of Amsoil engine & transmission flush. Fill the engine with a good oil & new filter! Start the engine and let it idle only! When it is at operating temperature, shut it down. Add the Amsoil to the oil and restart! Let it idle for 15 minutes and vary the rpms between idle and 1500! Then shut it down! Let it sit 15 minutes! Then restart run it 10 more minutes, shut it down and drain it! Then do your oil & filter change! Run it 100 miles and do another oil change, note how dirty the oil is for just a 100 miles! Then follow that up with two consecutive 1000 mile oil changes and see what the oil looks like on the last oil drain vs the first oil drain that was done at the 100 mile mark!

If the cylinder heads look like that...Chances are the lifter gallery/oil galleys are going to be just as bad... The screen on the oil pump might be half ass plugged too...Short of disassembling the engine and hot tanking it...I don't know...Perhaps Last Indian would know of some kind engine flush Chemical/procedure that would work without having to take everything apart...that could be put in the crankcase and using an oiling tool to turn the oil pump without actually running the engine.....

Wish I could be of more help......

I agree 100% Two Lane!! But unless Kiwi wants to pull the motor and tear it down to the short block he has limited options! Most of the motor flush’s don’t have enough contact time with that type of sludge to do much to it! Plus most motor flush’s if run long enough to have any impact on that type of sludge, there is always a concern about small pieces breaking loose and blocking small orifice, like valve lifters! What I described above will tend to have the best results! Clean as much as you can, than use the TBN of a high quality oil to literally clean the inside of the motor over time! But in this process you have to keep the oil fresh, I.E. oil & filter change every 1000 miles max till you see the motor is clean, I.E. pull a valve cover! Another way you will know this is happening, pay attention as to the length of time it takes for the oil to get dirty! When you first start the oil will get dirty almost immediately, but as time goes on this occurrence will increase!
