rear camera install

Featured Replies

so i have had a stereo for a while now that can do a rear camera setup. i have tapped into the reverse light. but i get no image on the screen, only static. i have tried 2 cameras and i know that i have had an image before when i first tested them. is the reverse light wires not enough?

got it!

Remember, you use that to clear the blind spot, not to see where you're going. Arm over the seat and spun about looking out the back window is still the way to do it.

i jus wanted it to help assist in parking in like a garage or whatever in reverse. i still look over when backing up. and for the issue, i thought it would be the video wire, or worse, the camera. since there was static i thought that meant it received power when in reverse but no video signal reached the screen. but what actually was wrong was i had the positive and negative wires mixed up. apparently, a green (positive) and black wires do not mean the same thing elsewhere on the car. the reverse green was negative and the black looking one was positive.

Nice! Hmmm that's interesting.

The backup camera is nice. I have it in the Camaro and I still find myself looking all around but it's good to see what's directly behind you too.

it wasnt full on black but like a faded black, not dark grey. so i assumed it was black. learning experience.

so JUSTA6, you worked on G6s on the line. do you know if there is any type of contact from the reverse gear/light in the dash or center console? its the last piece to the puzzle to make the stereo auto switch to the backup camera.

Sorry, I haven't seen this thread lately.  I have no idea where the reverse switch would be. Could be on the trans or in the shifter console.  You could tie in to the reverse lights Under dash @ the harness that runs to the rear?  Wish I could be more help.  Sounds like you did find a connection.

i jus ran the wire to the tail light itself. same contact point that powers the camera. so all done. i did try to google possible locations under the dash or center console but nothing came up.
