Hi guys,I purchased this 57 about 2 years ago with no motor, motor was getting rebuilt from owner.

I was going to buy the motor ounce ready but life took a curve and was not able to buy it.

I am now looking into installing an 6.0 with a 4l60e that i have from my 1966 beaumont that is another project on hold at the moment.Has anyone done this swap,I cant find motor supports for the us frame, only able to get what goes on the chevy frame.

Also anyone done a direction and suspension upgrade,I have king pins.

Thank you in advance.

The 6.0 will very likely fit and I used some ICT Billet adjustable engine mounts with my Catalina. A 4L60E fit but required some snipping of the floor sheet metal, especially down the driver's side of the transmission. For the more obscure LS swapped vehicles, it boils down to you, a tape measure, a notepad and your imagination to make it all fit because there's probably no kit and few people that have done your exact vehicle. Seriously, my LS short block and transmission went in and came back out probably ten times before I got it set correctly.

Count on probably needing a set of headers. My LS exhaust manifold would not fit at the steering gear box, IIRC. You might get lucky here.

Count on needing the Holley 302-5 oil pan or a GM suitable substitute. The 6.0 LS truck oil pan is too deep and will catch every rock, twig and insect as you go down the road. And don't buy a fake, counterfeit, illicitly produced, clone and intellectual property ripoff Chinese copy of the Holley oil pan. Many are not exact copies and don't fit, especially around the steering gear.

Who will do the tuning on your PCM? What year of engine and transmission - did they both come from the same donor vehicle? How many miles on these donor parts? Do you still have access to the donor to get things such as the electronic throttle pedal and its TAC Module, if equipped?

You might consider replacing the hard to reach later things on the engine while its out - crank sensor, cam sensor, knock sensor, timing chain assembly and the front and rear main seals. Consider a new oil pump and DEFINITELY REPLACE the oil pump pickup tube o-ring. Freshen up at least the valve stem oil seals or just get both heads completely rebuilt now.

So much to discuss here.

Hi Rick, thanks for all the information. My first step is finding mounts that bolt to the frame for a v8

I really don’t want to place and remove the engine over and over.I will be needing help on this one.Its my first 57 Pontiac that I’m doing.Wish me luck.

i have a 63 safari to get built first !!! .... check out my thread :)cheers

i have a L98 out of a late model ve holden, your G8 in the states ... that i am puting in my one, along with the 6l80e trans which is wayy bigger than your 4l60 trans, but i want the extra over drive cog !and it will talk to the computer without any issues .

i am not useing any of the 57 suspension !!! i have a c4 corvette front and rear that i will be using! no old king pin stuff at all !!!

i was inspired to go this way by nerd rods and what they do for 57 cheys in their kit set frames

let me know what your going to do... all this stuff cost money and its nice to only have to pay it once !! and not stuff up !!

your 57 looks super clean, :)
