70 lemans with a 350, got it a year ago had to adjust choke on a eldelbrock barb then it started right up without loading up. now hard to start checked coil was weak put on a new one still hard. I spin it and it spins a while when I stop spinning it , it will go to fire up. got a pertronic in the distributor and wondered if you had any experience with the same thing happing. seems to run ok when it starts just not use to a car starting that way, about the same hot or cold.

Seems like your Pertronic distributor has no 12 volt power DURING cranking. Or, it has about nine volts of power through a ballast resistor - from use with a pre-HEI distributor - that is too low to operate the ignition module in the Pertronic unit.

Give your new distributor a full 12 volts of key on ignition power during and after cranking.

That sound like a ignition switch worn! the contacts are tired Bob !

these old girls will have nasty worn contacts within the ignition switch !

and what you have to do is a process of elimanation !

pertonics are wayyy bullet proof !

new switch would be my first fix !....or

because i am a tight arse ! pop the switch off and carefully open the casing of the switch and clean the contacts !

Question: is this a cold stsrt or a hot start issue or both?
