Fender skirts for 1950 Streamliner

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hi,

I've just joined Forever Pontiac. I've always wanted a 1949-51 Streamliner. I've found one I like, but it does not have fender skirts. I believe it is a Deluxe two door fastback. Were fender skirts standard or was it an extra cost option when new?

Any advice, recommendations, and thoughts as to the various pluses and minuses of the various years 49-51 would be welcome, as well as what to watch for when looking at a car for sale.

Thank you all in advance!

Welcome to Forever Pontiac.  As with any old car, parts are going to be an issue.  From body to suspension and drivetrain, they don't make many parts anymore. Groups like FP are good as members might know a starting point to look for what you need or may have a PARTS car that they might SHARE.  Most times you will be repairing old stock parts.  My Dad had an early 50's with the bubble rear 1/4's and he did have the fender skirts.

Thanks!

Would have expected another member or two, to have stopped by and offered some help on parts location for older Pontiac models.

Widetrack, check out these guys ….

my advise when looking for these models …. Make sure it’s complete !!!
Certainly , do a good inspection for rust and take them for a test drive to ensure you’re happy with how it drives . Its all very fine loving a model of car , but totally different thing with how old girls handle compared to new

Thank you 64 kiwi boni .. Excellent advice. From what i've gathered online, these cars should have fender skirts. The selling dealer does not have them. I could buy. a set, but then I'd have to paint the whole car so they would match. Also, this dealer does not allow an inspection before buying! So I will pass on this car.

Good call mate 👍

if the dealer won’t let you drive/inspection of it , that’s a red flag to me !!!
and if I was looking at that car , I would be looking for discount for the missing skirts 👍

Widetrack, stick a wanted add on the fp for sales page !
thats how I found my 57 chieftain !!!

Was this at an auction?   Looks like a broken mirror post left on the door too.  There are cars/want ads in the POCI as well.
