1968 Catalina power steering pump. What bolts need to be loosened/removed?

Recommended Posts

1968 Catalina power steering pump movement. I’m replacing the radiator and water pump in my ‘68 Catalina. I’m trying to move the power steering pump so that I can remove the belts. The engine is a 400 cu in with no air conditioning. I’ve removed or loosened all the bolts that I can see. I still can’t get the pump to move. What am I missing?

I would suggest that you download the 1969  Pontiac Service manual (located elsewhere here on this site, link below). Once you've downloaded it, you can hit ctrl-F and search for "power steering". I believe section 9 is the chapter on steering, including the pump. Also under Engine should be an exploded view of everything bolted to the engine.

look on the back of the pump, there should be a bolt welded to the pump housing with a nut through that steel plate
