Cell phones

Featured Replies

I have been paying $75.00 for two cell phones for 2.5 years and that gives me 50 minutes a month for two phones. This does not allow me to travel in the united states without being raped for roaming charges.

The boss and I are looking for U.S. ones as we have found that all we need is a mailing address and a credit card to secure them. We are looking at Verizon for a carrier as they have pretty good North America plans where Canada is included in the service.

Do any of you have Verizon and are you happy with the service?

I am really happy with the service, I'm at the other end of the United States but reception here is really good, phones are really well prices (got my Droid X for $150, originally sells for $300) and plans give you the most.

I pay about $50 a month for unlimited text, phone, internet, email and insurance.

I can speak for my fiance and say Verizon blows. Well, customer service anyway.

She seems to have pretty decent service when her droid isn't freezing, skipping pages, shutting down without warning or sending text messages when she isn't even holding her phone...

I don't want to get into a huge debate over service, because some people experience different situations. But, Nina has gone through 3 of the same phone because they keep malfunctioning and she brings it in and they give her a refurbished version of the same phone. They can't do anything about the software because they just randomly discontinued the phone she has.

BUT, I thought it was just Nina that had this issue, until I met someone at my work that has the same phone and is dealing with the same issues. Droid and Verizon FTL.

Crazy, could be the firmware she's running and she hasn't updated it then each time she gets the new phone its running that bad version?

I actually haven't had any issues yet myself with Verizon, although my sister did end up dropping her last phone in a lake and got a free refurbished one.

Mark, I don't want to sound like a dick but I think it was very nice of Verizon to give her a refurbished one. A lot of other companies would have said tough deal with it, you didn't purchase the replacement plan.

Nope, it's not updated because it can't be. The phone was discontinued and there haven't been any updates for the phone since it was discontinued. So they screwed her and my friend.

It doesn't sound like you're being a dick lol. It is nice of Verizon to give her a "new" phone but, it would be nicer if they gave her a phone that worked and put it on the current contract instead of giving her the same shitty phone over and over again, even when they know very well that the phone blows.

Oh gotcha, anyone else have this issue online? I don't want to accuse her of using the phone wrong but when my sister and I both got our Blackberry Storms, my sister had all sorts of issues and I wasn't having them. Turns out she wasn't closing her programs correctly and leaving them open causing the phone to crash and do weird things. I told her how to run it and its been working fine now for 2 years plus now.

The Android phones with a lot of them don't necessarily have a "close" button on the app so you got to run Android App killer every now and again to make sure they close. Just a tip that might help, I dunno if its an issue or not.

It would have been nice to get a different but sometimes giving a newer phone because an old one is having issues is against policy. Surprised they didn't offer you it at a discounted price or something.

My buddy at work has the same phone and same issues. Nina does have the app killer and uses it but idk whats wrong. It's weird....

We are not looking at any data plans as we only used 130 minutes of talk in that 2.5 years with Telus and maybe 25 texts in that time as well. The only thing we were looking at was to talk and text on the phone but 70% of the time the phones would be off. I have actually used my cell for more 911 calls in the years then to call my parents.

We picked them up today with an LG phone. I will give them a shot and see but for what I was paying in Canada for a phone they are at 700 minutes per month and 250 texts with 700 minutes of talk. I do not think I will ever use that much in a month.

I have had Verizon for four years now without one problem. My phone randomly restarts itself but that's only in the past 6 months since it became pretty "old". I get a new one in February so I'm not complaining. I've never had to deal with their customer service so good luck in that department. I have also had Sprint and T-Mobile, Sprint was terrible and T-Mobile was alright but it was when they were pretty new and didn't have the best coverage. I still am a diehard Verizon fan like I'm a diehard Pontiac fan ;) Good luck!

You should then be golden if your reception is good then. Verizon I've had the best coverage with so far, even going to China and using their partner over there it was good reception lol.

Was that the certain plan you had to get to be able to use the phone in Canada? or is there a lower one?

There was a specific plan for roaming in Canada otherwise we would be hit with huge roaming charges if we went to Toronto.

Oh gotcha, weird.

iPhone 4 FTW!

I've never had anything other than ATT... EVER... their CS is AWESOME, there are times when they do try to get crazy though, but for that I have a weapon of mass destruction in my arsenal... when they try to get crazy all I have to to is get the wifey on the phone and they get shit taken care of IMMEDIATLY! ;)

I've heard great things about Verizon, and it's not just the Verizon Droid phones sucking, it's the Droid application across the board, the kinks haven't been worked out and the software was released to early IMO, plus they keep trying to upgrade to quickly to new software...

Eh my Droid X is fine, no issues and I've had it for like 2ish months now. Mark's Fiance was the first person I've ever heard of with an issue with a Droid phone or overall an Android OS.

Hmmm, well alot of the soldiers I know have problems with the Droid, but it's not really the phone itself, it's the OS on it

Yea Droid = Android which = OS :slap:

Just the regular Droid phone? I never liked that one, was an advancement in technology for Google and Motorola but being a first gen phone there's bound to be issues. That's why I waited and now my Droid X is awesome! I just found an emulator for SQL queries run so I can basically work on the go now :lol2:

Yeah, I don't think any of them have the Droid X, but that could be why they are having problems :lol2:
