  1. Correct JUSTA. The one on the left is chrome plated. The one the right is nickel and brass plated. Now look at the top and middle photos. Count the feathers behind the head dress. The chrome one has 7 feather from top to bottom. The nickel one has 8 feather. Also, the feathers on the chrome one come closer to the edge of the cap than the nickel, at the base. Now look at the base under the heads. The chrome one was a wide base and narrows to meet the head while the nickel is more mushroom shaped - narrow at the bottom and wider at the top. Therefore, the chrome piece is the correct radiator cap for the first-year, 1926 Pontiac. The nickel/brass piece is the correct radiator cap for the 1927 model year Pontiac.
  2. That's what the guy is offering you for the Parisienne? 😲 Charge him another $1400 for the tires and wheels then.
  3. Yes, the one on the right is just slightly taller. Not by much though.
  4. These two old Pontiac radiator caps look nearly identical except for the plating finish. However, there are other differences. These belong on different year Pontiacs. Can you tell what year each cap belongs on? BTW - I am now the proud owner of the one on the left. Something tells me that this thread is going to be right in 31pontiac's wheelhouse!
  5. Oh oh, this could be a double edged sword. 95 octane gas would allow automakers to produce higher compression engines and therefore produce more torque and horsepower. Yeah for that point. However, assuming for the moment that the cost of 95 octane comes down close to the price of 87 octane, increasing the amount of ethanol in the fuel is one of the ways to boast the octane rating. Increasing ethanol in modern fuel presents issues with all the current vehicles on the road that are not designed to use anything beyond E5 fuel, including our classic cars. So E10, E15 or higher fuels could be a real possibility, which will present problems that GM, Ford, BMW, and others have documented to the federal government when the EPA proposed E10 fuel. Now there are other ways to chemically boast the octane without using ethanol. The question will be what will be the cost going that route? Don't know - its way too soon to tell. However, boasting ethanol to do it has consequences to us all.
  6. Welcome Jon! Road worthy upgrades huh? I'd start with the basics and work your way up. 1. Complete tune-up - spark plugs, wires, rotor cap, rotor, points, fuel filter, carb cleaning, air filter? 2. Inspect and repair the brakes, as necessary 3. Complete fluid changes - oil & filter, transmission oil and filter (if its an automatic), rear diff, power steering fluid (if the car has PS), brake fluid, coolant 4. Replace ALL rubber hose that comes in contact with fuel or fuel vapor with modern hose, including the one at the gas tank, carb, etc. and all other hoses that is worn or cracked. Inspect and replace your radiator hoses. Inspect your thermostat too! 5. Inspect your hard lines - brake, transmission, and fuel - for rusty, leaks, or damage, replace as necessary. 6. Inspect your battery cables, replace if necessary 7. Inspect and replace any worn out shocks 8. Inspect your front and rear suspension - do the bushing and ball joints look worn or cracked - replace the bushings with new ones and get a front end alighment, it will amaze you how much better the car will handle. 9. Does the carb need to be rebuilt? If so, get a rebuild kit. 10. Get a set of lighter distributor springs and weights to bring your engines full advance timing in at a lower RPM. 11. Find an aftermarket rear sway bar kit - the big cars didn't come with one from the factory except the Impala. Kits are now available to retro fit them but you have to look online for them. 12. Go to your local tire store and see what they recommend size wise that will fill your fenders with meats that will fit your 15" rims (for now). I assume that newer (plus size) rims are on the wish list somewhere down the road which will require different tires anyway. 13. De-grease / clean the engine bay / touch up paint 14. Clean carpets and seats 15. Wash, clay bar, wax, seal the paint 16. Clean and detail the interior, engine bay, and trunk - as time and money permits This is my short list. Others may have some suggestions too. Most of these are relatively inexpensive until you get into the bushings/ball joints/sway bar/hard line replacement. Then it becomes more time consuming and requires more money. However these could also be safety issues if you find something wrong too. My recommendation is to do all of these things as your wallet permits. They don't have to be done all at once if the car is running. Common sense along with financial sense should dictate what you do next.
  7. Well for your sake, I hope you can sell it. I am sure you can use the cash.
  8. Hi Bernie - Welcome to FP. Carter and Pontiac had a 10-year run with Carter AFB carbs and lots of applications. Here is the list, as I know. I hope this helps. 9. You're a helluva a negotiator Pro. Or is the douche welching on the deal?
  10. So it is the former, not the latter. Good to know. So you can do even smokier one legged burn outs!
  11. Oh this ought to be good ! Welcome to FP by the way. Feel free to post pictures of your '65 Goat too!
  12. An interesting history lesson on the early years of GM and comparing it to Tesla. Elon Musk might want to pay attention. https://hbr.org/2018/04/to-understand-the-future-of-tesla-look-to-the-history-of-gm BTW - the article forgot to mention the Alfred P. Sloan Musuem in Flint Michigan too. Durant Park in Lansing Michigan, and Waterford Durant High School in Waterford Michigan are a couple of things named after Billy Durant.
  13. This is an interesting read on the background attempts to save DeLorean Motor Car company back in 1982. https://jalopnik.com/inside-the-audacious-plan-to-save-delorean-in-1982-1824045468 I remember John Sawruk talking about a conversation he had with DeLorean just before JZD died. Now we will never know if this is true or not, but it would certainly explain DeLorean's actions. According to Sawruk, the "investors" DeLorean ended up dealing with were in fact cocaine dealers. John wanted to back out of the deal entirely but these dealers threatened to kill John's daughter if he didn't go forward with the deal, which he did and he was subsequently arrested by the FBI. I suspect DeLorean kept quiet about this blackmail issue for fear of reprisals against his family. Again, I doubt any of this will ever be proven and it will be treated as nothing more than hear-say but it certainly would (to a degree) exonerate DeLorean for his actions.
  14. I know how he feels about the kid in college. RC didn't happen to send you any pictures did he? What is Coy working on these days for that matter?
  15. 360 - for what it's worth, I would put the fuel filter close to the carb. That way you have easy access to it when it comes time to replace the filter versus crawling under the car. If you use a see-thru filter container, you can also see when it starts to get dirty and keep an eye on the quality of the gas you are buying. Anyway, that's my two cents.
  16. Gas is already $2.85 a gallon for unleaded here in mid--Michigan, when I had to get gas this morning on the way to work. Bastiches.
  17. Woodward could get interesting this year. We need to get Coy up here too. What's RedChevy up to these days? I haven't heard from him since the old forum died.
  18. Well cash is always a nice thing. Plus it would remove one vehicle from the stable. Any luck retiring the Malibu to local crusher? Or is the wife still madly in love with it?
  19. True that. Still, I'd love to see the Parisienne breath to life again too.
  20. Well be sure to let us know as it gets closer (Woodward is August 18th this year). We had to move to a new location last year - further south on Woodward. So let me, JUSTA6, or notallthere know if you need an application for parking.
  21. I get it. Common sense be damned. Good luck with your continued search.
  22. Welcome to FP and the madness. Feel free to post more pictures of your ride!
  23. Why is that? Money or connards pompeux provinciaux or both?
