Captured in a short video on a Manhattan street corner, it is escorting an NYPD van behind it.

They don't just use Crown Vics, either: NYC The Blog has <a href="

The blog also lets you know how to tell an undercover police cab from a proper taxi by comparing the license plate number to the medallion number on the cab's roof - not that it would do you any good in your rearview mirror, though.

When the post was written two and a half years ago it was said that there were only eight such taxis prowling the naked city, and that their plates all began with "T800." Wait so the police can dress as Taxis and pull you over still? Feel like that's more than a little wrong. I definitely wouldnt stop for a taxi

You're not supposed to pull over for unmarked vehicles. I'm sure they use them to catch people doing things and call it in.Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2

Pfft, you've never been in NY. The state troopers LOVE unmarked cars to nail speeders and moving violations. They're getting sneaky too, last month I saw two state troopers in an unmarked grey Toyota Sienna have a BMW pulled over on the Southern State Parkway.

The fact that it's not an unmarked "civilian" looking car and actually something else is just a dick move.

It can vary from state to state, but I know here in MA you can request for a marked cruiser, that is why when I see the local unmarked Charger pull someone over its generally accompanied by a marked car, but most people don't think about it and the cops know it so they just pull you over and thats it. I should have said you don't have to stop for undercover vehicles like those taxis because who knows if its a actual cop or some crazy person pretending to be a cop. But I don't know NY law on the subject.

In the US, you have the right to move to a well populated area if you're are "being pulled over" by an unmarked cop. You are also allowed to call the cops to make sure the person pulling you over is a legit cop. The populated area part is a moot point though in NYC though

I just think it's utterly wrong for police to hide in a Taxi, unmarked car that's fine but posing as something else. Next thing you know they will be acting as ambulances.
