Adjusting the TV cable on my 200R4 trans

Had a shop rebuild the tranny and pulled my 350. He set up the 200R4 trans and lock system for HWY crusin. After some battery maintenance, I tugged on the cable and it was loose. Checkin a car at the convention, looked pretty tight. Of course I would never touch anyones car when they were not around. He had a spring / washer put in at the retainer. Looks like it always has tension on it. Anybody know how tight it has to be? Went to a show couple years ago and the car wouldn't shift out of 1st on the way home. It runs N moves in the driveway. Can always test N tune but would be much better if I had some clue going in. I plan to add the spring as well. Hoping to save some big $$$ on a trans shop.

Does the cable to the transmission have any slack in it? There's also some required geometry here for the angle of the cable that needs to be honored.

I'm no expert on these throttle valve (TV) cables for a 700R4 or a 200-4R but I do know this - the clutch packs will VERY quickly shred themselves if the TV cable adjustment is not correct. Think merely a few miles of going down the road!!

The TV cable controls internal transmission line pressures that protect the friction material on the clutch pack disks. As the accelerator pedal is depressed, the TV cable tightens and increases the line pressure to squeeze the clutch pack frictions and steels more tightly together to prevent slippage and . . . a premature death.

You Tube is where I would go for the best explanation on how to adjust the TV cable. Watch a few, there seems to be quite a few.

I'm no expert to this trans, but have been driving this car for years the way it was set up. HUGE difference in my gas milage behind the 421. Seems to me that the tension would dictate when it would shift? If I'm not getting the full swing of the throttle, maybe that's why it isn't shifting? It is loose right now. You must swing the throttle to engauge tension. Need to fix the broken wire on the Sunbird distributor harness before I would be able to even get the GTO in the driveway. Justa too fricken HOT for me to work outside.
