So my youngest got his 55" 4000K HD Television and I can't say as I understand why as he had a perfectly good TV in his room already. (I know I sure as hell never had a television until not only was I out of the house but it wasn't until I was out of the Corps!!! These kids today!) So the obvious thing to do was to hijack his 36" HD TV and turn it into a computer monitor so I don't have to use reading glasses to see the screen anymore......but I might now need suntan lotion.! Hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Xmas!

Yeh it was a gaming motivated want. Had to do with "refresh rate?" We got a lucky break because the BB salesman stepped us up to the gaming monitor technology in a 50" that my son wanted, sold us the TV and suddenly they were "out of stock". They made it right and gave him the next model up in the same tech but in a 55" model. I guess he can pair our internet, his phone, as well as HULU, Netflix, YouTube, you name it, he can do it thru that TV. These have certainly outsmarted me at this point.

Least got a little more bang for your buck.

TVs these days do everything except cook the dinner turkey

The turkey that got cooked was your son and his wallet! Granted prices are coming down, they still aren’t cheap.

Nice though on repurposing the 36” tv!

I personally Find it amazing that today's technology...Was the stuff of science fiction when I was a kid...Now it's an everyday reality......

I’m still waiting for my personal jet pack and Jetson flying car that folds into a briefcase. Let's not forget about the flying, time traveling Deloreans!

However I agree with you.

I saw one of those the other day in someone’s garage. Guess they’re ahead of the curve.

Some early adopters are out there. It's not like they are readily available to the masses.

Think about it - things we don't have that science fiction writers predicted we would have by now.

1. Flying cars and personal jet packs

2. A Moon base - anyone remember Moon Base Alpha?

3. Anti-aging pills

4. Trips to Jupiter - 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel 2010: Odyssey Two

5. Nuclear Holocaust / Mutual Assured Destruction / End of Civilization as we know it

6. Super-sonic Air Travel - this is one we actually had and then lost after the last flight of the Concorde back in 2003.

7. Robot butlers / servants - Roomba's don't really count. I don't think that is what Isaac Asimov had in mind.

8. The Zombie Apocalypse

Here are some things that did come true:

1. The Cubs won the World Series

2. Body Scanners - now in airports to look for bombs or terrorists - Total Recall would be happy

3. Robot Vacuum Cleaners - not quite Rosie from the Jetsons, but okay the Roomba fits in here.

4. Cell phones - I think were inspired by Star trek communicators
