will the 4 barrel intake manifold from a 1979 301 fit a pontiac 350 or 400?

Yes and no. It will physically bolt on but the 301 is a different size engine than all other mainstream Pontiac motors. It is a one inch smaller deck height, two main weight throws in the crank, and thinner walled bores. Basically Pontiac made the 301 and 265 to save weight. Bottom line it won't not bolt and fit up correctly to the 326-455 engines and heads. You should find a stock or aftermarket intake that fits your application.

thanks for the help the 301 intake  and a mid 60s carter 4 barrel were free i was trying to save a few bucks  im trying to restore a 1973 base lemans  original 400 2 barrel auto on the colum 79,000 miles runs great smokin deal for 2,500$ im trying to restore my lemans with a 14,000$ budget i want to look good at the a&w on friday night and run high 12s at atlanta dragway. i am new to pontiac.  my 85 thunderbird turbocoupe got sent to muscle car heaven by a dump truck

That's awesome. I had a '73 LeMans Sport Coupe right out of high school. So I have empathy with you restoring this car. I hope the body is solid since no one re-pops any sheet metal for them. You're best bet is specialty pull / wrecking yards or NOS parts. Power train parts you should be able to mix and match with any Pontiac. 

A decent stock 4-bbl cast iron manifold should run $50-100 at a local swap meet or eBay or Craigslist.
