Thank you for having this forum. I am an active duty service member with six children (blessing) currently and we are dedicated to living debt free. Part of that is me driving an economical vehicle and learning a little more of the maintenance for myself and maybe soon helping out others on the side.

I am currently working on some overheating issues. This car has a history of overheating when in slow traffic and occasionally while idling still for too long. Now it has moved to just plain overheating. First I am going to attempt a coolant flush of the radiator along with a new thermostat. Hopefully that provides a solution.

Thank you for your service! Best of luck with those 6 blessings too, I can't imagine that handful :)

Got any pics of the Sunfire?

I would suggest posting your question over in our Q&A for maintenance and the alike as it will get more exposure and that forum is formatted better for Q&A plus Best Answer:

Thankz for your service Bro.  Coolant flush and thermostat would be the 1st place to start.  Checking your fan would be included.  Thinkin thats electric and may not be starting/ stopping as needed.
