  1. Picture of speedo just before going into WV! Sherman and friend in nice warm garage. G/P belongs to long time friend from high school days! Stored here while he does Reno on his garage.
  2. Right now he’s sitting beside his new “ winter buddy” ( 62 Grand Prix) in warmth of garage, but missing his P/S pump that’s sitting on the bench! Definitely get more road time if gas comes down ( $5:73 gallon yesterday and went up today) spoke to previous owner after I sent picture of speedo at 70mph, he said he never drove it above 45 mph !! and only put 8 to 900 miles on it over 9 years.
  3. Been away from here for awhile, had a great trip to WV for Doo Wop show in Oct, Grandville ran great, got decent mileage!! Spent $ 2000 getting A/C to work over summer but drove down and back, top up and heater on!!! DAM. Rad started to leak at show but figured I'd make it home?? well we were a block away, HOT light came on, and radiator "let go" with big ball of steam as I pulled in driveway!! WHEW. $ 800 later rad rec cored. Now I'm waiting for P/Strg pump to come from NAPA as it decided to pack it in and "bleed" all over floor! This car had very limited driving by previous owner, so I guess the 1200 mile trip shocked it???? Frosty posted pictures of show and are mostly same as ones I took. Pete
  4. Yes I dropped my membership as well. Had a phone call from membership person in Grand Rapids MI and he said he’d get back after bringing up my issues but never heard back???? He didn’t realize than our dollar exchange was a hinderence and was as much as it is! Also told him this affects buying parts along with having to pay duty, brokerage fees shipping from border, then 13% tax after converting to Cdn dollars ! Just not worth it!
  5. No , not available for that length of time and back in school, so doggy hotel for that trip! Just did oil and filter on Sharon’s Pontiac Torrent, won’t say how far over due it was!! But she puts the KM’s on it!! Never heard back from membership guy from POCI after phone call when I canceled? Maybe he’s pounding his head against the wall with no one caring either!
  6. Yes! I did that with the 51 torpedo back in 2014, he assumed I was trailing it, wrong, drove it down by myself, what a hoot of a trip!
  7. Had a “ doggy sitter” so he stayed home! Brian is allergic to dogs and cats! I’m really feeling good about driving “ Sherman “ down to Charleston but not telling Rusty that, I’ll keep that for surprise when we roll in driveway! It will likely do better on fuel then Yukon will towing the “ tub” It’s 1000+ lbs heavier than the 409 was!! BTW it’s on the way to NZ
  8. Sharon & I took "Sherman" on it's first long haul, went to visit a long time friend [1951]. 175 mile trip one way, last Saturday, top up & A/C on & still got close to 17MPG!!! 455 performed well both there & back, and was like travelling in your " lazy Boy" chair!!! Exhaust sounds great, not loud but nice rumble, Took a different route home and had a 15 minute "ferry ride" west of Kingston Ont. but lost almost a hour as we had to wait for 3 ferry trips before we could board!!! Got back yesterday!!! Back window leaked a bit in torrential rain at Brian's. other than that " PERFECT" trip
  9. Pressure switch "went south " on me, as well as finding a "leak" at high pressure port when "red" dust cap put on!! Called supplier on VIR conversion valve & they are calling Texas company to see if they will replace valve?? Took a month 1/2 for VIR valve to make it here so I found a valve on Amazon made by same company in the mean time for $ 21 and delivered yesterday!! will install it today & hopefully compressor will cycle. Left red cap off and put a rubber hose over port to keep any "crap" out of valve!!
  10. Frosty!!! you left "oot" the Avanti II that I had at Doo WOP show!!!!!!!
  11. Jumping in late here, my 1st car back in 1966 was a 55 Chev 2 dr post, 6 cyl 3 on the tree for about 2 weeks before starting to upgrade. Built a 327 with pop up's, Duntov cam, 202 heads and "tri power" in my parent's garage and rolled short block 4 blocks on a creeper to garage i'd rented. Already had the 6 out, installed short block and finished putting rest together. Dad told my Mum " don't worry it will never run" Wrong!! It was a screamer, shook the to body to death, so bought a 56 BelAir [ $ 50 with smoking 6 cyl.] post car and transplanted d/line about 6 mths later, and dropped the drive shaft, in front of house with dad sitting on front steps, which didn't go over very well!!! Both of those were "true sleepers" 1st Pontiac was a 1960 Strato Chief 4 dr 6 cyl that my uncle sold me, that smoked so bad after a week, it was returned for full refund, after my Mum chewed out her brother!!! bunch of other vehicles then came a 70 Catalina rag top, 64 Catalina 2+2 [ with dual quads] 51 Pontiac Torpedo back on Monty chassis SBC 5 speed Tremic & dualquads [lost in garage fire] & now my 74 Grandville Brougham convertible,
  12. I'm wondering if any Cdn members are in POCI and what you think of it?? I "re joined" after many years away, & I'm finding out AGAIN there's nothing for Cdn. members!! The Smoke Signals magazine is a wonderful publication, high quality, & some great articles but for almost $100 Cdn theres NOTHING North of border. Could go "on line for less" but you have to have reliable internet [which I don't] Membership drive is extremely difficult, up here, and only 6 new members recruited in Canada in last 6 mths. Would love to have a Canadian Chapter but on talking to Pontiac owners their interest "WAINS" when costs come up & having to join POCI as well as Chapter. I did Convention in Greensville SC back in 2005, great show, but some of the show car owners were "SNOTTY" Costs now days with dollar difference to US $ Gas & hotel fees out of sight curtails going to another !!! Comments?????
  13. Ordered A/C pump and started all over again! Found out orfice tube in old accumulator valve! Installed pump, evacuated system “ again” and recharged. Tripped pressure switch and compressor started while charging, topped off Freon and adjusted pressure switch, 42 F out the vents! New accumulator has a “ reducer block” that takes place of orrfice tube! Left upper vent has no air flow ? Duct hose off or missing? Will find that later as it’s a bitch to get at. Onto the cruise control not operating?
  14. Especially when the fuel doesn’t take you anywhere! But sure saved our “ a$$es” having our food not go rotten and be able to see local news for updates! Path of devastation went from Michigan US border to Ottawa then into Quebec ! Horrendous damage!!!!
  15. Had power loss here on wknd. out over 34 hours!! Was powering house on 7200 Watt generator and trip to gas station that had power, 5 gallon "jerry can" cost $ 61 ea [ x2] to fill with Premium!!! Same storm that hit northern Michigan earlier!! 10 dead in Ontario that were storm related!!!!!
  16. Trying to get A/C working in Grandville, does anyone know where the orifice tube is located?? in factory air system, have installed new Accumulator [updated] but comp only putting out 90lb I don't want to put new comp. on till I check orifice ????
  17. Oooh!! a 3 pedal car !! Love it!! welcome to the site from Ont. Canada
  18. 1 cruise in in Uxbridge is “ supposed “ to start May 16 Port Perry cruise in cancelled due to no place to hold it, church backed out on insurance issues and noise complaints from neighbors and no other property owners including township parking lots or arena, want us there!! With gas now over $ 2.00 a litre ( $9.00 gallon for regular)and still going up , most guys I’ve talked to, aren’t taking cars out with premium at or over $ 10 gallon !! Actual car shows are slim right now , as they can’t forecast if cars will show up to cover their costs on admission gate, poor donations from sponsors or none at all! I don’t even know about going to FOP show in WV!! Canuckistan” buck” dropping like a stone to US buck!!! Checked hotel in Grove City PA ( 1/2 way point) and prices have doubled!!!!!!!
  19. Long time friend [ has a 62 GP] found a trunk emblem on line!! I measured my trunk one and fender one, Trunk 1/2" shorter so we went for it!! Arrived in a day or two, & I cut the bottom piece off that says "By Pontiac" I figure " you can't stand on both sides of car at once & notice a 1/2" difference and if you do " gettin Picky" but I know Frosty will say something in Oct.
  20. It's Alive!!!! Fired it up yesterday, so far no leaks !!! Still ran rough on idle and acceleration, checked ignition components, all seemed OK then the 2 watt light bulb came on, S/plugs were "white" when out last week, so thinking previous owner ran regular even though I had put some premium in, dumped a full can of Sea-Foam into 1/4 tank of fuel, another test run "pounding the PI% $$" out of it, Backfires galore for awhile then smoothed right out. It even "PEELED" out at stoplight, so I think my "didling" with cam timing "perked" it up some?? 4600Lb tank that will lay rubber!!! Took Sharon for her 1st. ride when she arrived from Toronto and she was impressed how smooth it ran and rode. After all that work that I wasn't expecting to do, I'm now pleased with outcome, on to getting A/C working next week as my parts came from Texas, started out at $ 158 US and ended up over $300 Cdn. by time exchange, shipping to border, then broker fees, Cdn. Tax then more shipping fees from border to here !!!!!!
  21. On the way back together!!! Just a little each day as "back" not holding out and daily headaches don't help either!!!
  22. Comon now Dennis , this will be my 3rd maybe 4 th Pontiac ( blue block) that Ive I’ve owned and wrenched on over the years even though there not that popular north of the border! When I rebuilt the 64 Catalina 2+2 it cost over double what SBC parts cost to rebuild !! Will get back at it sometime tomorrow but taking my time as back gives me fits now, head says your 20 but body saying “no your 75 now!!
  23. On my first drive in Grandville it sprung a leak!! Previous owner had put new water pump on before I bought it BUT that wasn't the problem. leaking at intake to t/cover by-pass!! After stripping it down, no grommet in by-pass just a "load of silicone" timing chain was a little "sloppy so new gears & chain while I'm in there! Hung my Pontiac laundry" out to dry on Saturday, & have new parts installed [ Comp Cam double roller] and all surfaces cleaned up and ready to put cover back on "with new grommet" Wasn't expecting to do a tear down but $hit happens !!!!!!
  24. Glad to be of help, that’s why I thought it was a HEI problem from past experiences with those tiny wires breaking from relluctor pickup and engine just shutting off. Enjoy your ride!
