When Aston Martin announced a limited-production version of the Zagato-bodied Vanquish back in June, it simultaneously announced that the 99 copies it was going to build already had been sold. Now comes word that another run of Vanquish Zagatos will be built, this time in convertible (Volante) form, so it appears that well-heeled collectors will get another shot.

-

Once again, the total on offer is 99 cars. And although the Volante scraps the unique double-bubble roof that marked the Zagato coupe—in its place is a custom soft top derived from that on the standard Vanquish Volante—the convertible otherwise mirrors the special treatment that the Italian design house visited upon the coupe.

-

Like the Vanquish Zagato coupe, the convertible revealed at Pebble Beach is distinguished by a carbon-fiber splitter that starts at the nose and extends around the body sides all the way to the rear wheels. The lower rear valance and the rear deck have been restyled, the round taillights feature LED “blades,” and the front fenders sport side vents. The interior is dressed up with a “Z” stitch pattern on the seats and door panels, a Zagato “Z” on the headrests and center console, herringbone-weave carbon fiber, and bronze trim.

Aston Martin’s naturally aspirated V-12 is here again bumped up to 592 horsepower, resulting in a factory-estimated 0-to-60-mph time of 3.7 seconds. We’ll assume, though, that, as with the coupe, U.S. buyers again will be restricted to the federalized V-12 engine found in the standard Vanquish, meaning a mere 576 horsepower.

--

Regardless, the car is bound to be pretty quick, and Aston fans will have to be just as fast on their feet if they want to snag one, given demand for these Aston/Zagato creations. There’s no word on pricing, but we’re guessing this crowd is pretty much immune to sticker shock.
