In BMW’s words, the Competition Edition is the “spiciest version” of the M5, with a 600 horsepower from the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 (40 more than the regular M5) and 516 lb-ft of torque (an increase of 15). Fitted with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, the M5 sprints from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds, per BMW. The Competition Edition won’t be sold in the U.S., but luckily Americans will get nearly identical performance tweaks in the M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition model that’s headed to our shores soon.

The M5 Competition Edition includes the items included in the 575-hp Competition Package. It comes with a stiffened and lowered suspension, a specially programmed active rear differential, more direct steering, and a reprogrammed stability-control system. The Competition Edition comes with unique black wheels with 265/35ZR20 front and 295/30ZR20 rear tires. The exterior is further highlighted with carbon fiber trim, and the only available colors are Mineral White and Carbon Black, both metallic hues.

Inside, the M5 Competition Edition features a black-and-white color scheme, and there are performance seats with unique stitching. It comes with a few options that cost extra on the regular M5, such as a Bang & Olufsen stereo system, a head-up display, and lane-keep assist. A total of 200 units will be built, 100 in white and 100 in black. All models are graced with plaques that say “1 of 200″—which seems a little lazy, given that it should be little trouble for BMW’s M GmbH to create unique badges with the actual production number for each car.

--

In Germany, the car retails for EUR 129,500, some EU 25,200 more than the regular M5. Similarly equipped, however, the price delta shrinks to less than EUR 8000—a fairly reasonable premium for an ultra-rare special (and likely final) edition.
