Car and Driver: Chrysler Debuts 300S Sport Appearance Packages—Emphasis on “Appearance”

2017 Chrysler 300S Sport Appearance

Chrysler’s new-for-2017 Sport Appearance package for the 300S—which is really two packages, one for the interior and another for the exterior—sure get one thing right: They offer the appearance of sportiness. The new packages are purely cosmetic, with not a single mechanical upgrade to be found. Needling over the name aside, the 300S is the city slicker–themed member of the Chrysler 300 family and isn’t an outwardly sporty thing to begin with.

2017 Chrysler 300S Sport Appearance

Chrysler chose to unveil the Sport Appearance packages at the 2016 New York auto show, an ideal venue given the brand’s proclivity for using American cities as inspiration for its design themes. The Exterior Sport Appearance package is standard on the 2017 300S with the optional V-8 engine, and available on the base V-6 models. (It can be fitted to both rear- and all-wheel-drive models.) Among the upgrades are a rear spoiler, prominent rocker-panel extensions, and distinct LED fog-light strips fitted to a special front fascia. Individually, the components are subtle, but together, they add just the right amount of aggression to the 300S’s blocky-but-handsome body.

The Interior Sport Appearance package is even more subtle. Checking this option box on any 300S, regardless of its powertrain, nets perforated leather and suede upholstery for the heated and cooled front seats. That’s it. New to all 2017 Chrysler 300S models is more piano-black trim for the door panels, gauge cluster, and center console, as well as Light Gray Diesel contrast stitching for the seats and steering wheel. (The stitching carries over to the Interior Appearance package’s upgraded seats.) Finally, Chrysler has introduced a new exterior color for the 300S: Ceramic Gray. The hue joins Bright White, Granite Crystal, Billet Silver, Maximum Steel, Jazz Blue, and Redline Red on the 300S’s color palette. Pricing has yet to be released.
