Car and Driver: Going Gentle Into That Good Night(fall): GMC Terrain Adds Darkened Special Edition

Just when you think you’ve seen the end of blacked-out trim packages, GMC is at it again with a Nightfall Edition for its  Terrain crossover. Sharing its name with the special-edition Canyon pickup that debuted last year, this 2017 GMC Terrain gets a predictable array of dark trim to try and drum up some interest for the aging SUV.

Standard equipment for the Terrain Nightfall includes 18-inch wheels, revised front and rear fascias, and a slightly different grille. All are done in black, of course, as are the mirrors, the luggage rails, and even the license-plate surround. You can opt for the Nightfall in white, gray, or red to provide more of a contrast with the darkened trim pieces, but black is also offered for the full murdered-out look.

GMC hasn’t yet shared how much you’ll have to pay for this slightly more sinister Terrain, but we do know that the Nightfall Edition will only be offered on SLE-2 and SLT trim levels. Both come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that should be avoided; the 3.6-liter V-6 that’s offered for $1500 extra tugs around the Terrain’s 4000-plus pounds with much more authority, day or night.
