Car and Driver: Aston Martin’s New V-12 Loses Displacement, Gains Two Turbos

Aston Martin’s all-new DB11 sports car—the brand skipped from DB9 to DB11 because “DB10” was reserved for James Bond’s latest ride—will debut at the Geneva auto show in March. With it will be an equally fresh V-12 engine, only with a modern twist. Aston Martin has just confirmed that its favorite engine format, the V-12, will be updated with slightly less displacement and the addition of two turbochargers.

Aston doesn’t elaborate on the changes, but a glimpse of the engine from a teaser video the company posted online shows “V-12 5.2 Twin Turbo” lettering on the engine cover. It’s highly probable that “5.2” is a reference to the engine’s displacement, marking a decrease from Aston Martin’s current twelve, which displaces 5.9 liters (Aston labels it as a “6.0”). “Twin Turbo” seems fairly self-explanatory. Official power figures, as well as a look at the DB11 itself, will have to wait until Geneva. For now, revel in the new engine’s sweet, sweet sounds as it revs in the video below. The good news? The turbos don’t seem to have affected that V-12 exhaust note.
