100 Millionth Chevy Small Block V8 To Be Built This Year

Chevy-Small-Block-V8.jpg

Some of you may be seasoned enough to remember when Chevrolet first introduced the Chevy Small Block V8 engine in 1955 – back when it had its own engineering team. At the time, the original V8 engine produced 195 horsepower (a big deal at the time) and offered an optional four-barrel carburetor.

Though today Chevy no longer has its own engineers, the Small Block has continued to evolve through the years into engines like the 436 horsepower LS3 as seen in the Corvette. And within the time frame of the remaining months of 2011, the 100 millionth Small Block will leave the assembly line.

Remember during the bailout and people said GM has been doing things wrong building all these v8's for years..... And GM said we gave the people what they wanted. I think this milestone says it all! We did give the people what they wanted. ;):P

Oh yeah, I love all these discussions on how the EPA wants to put in a rule that the MPG per fleet has to be like 50 to 60 and thus eliminating a lot of V8s. Seems like 99% of the people are against doing it because as Capitalists and Americans it's our right to choose what we want to drive and have fun with. I love the left wing nuts that come in and get bashed, they're trying to act all pro-rights and stuff then say that small engine, hybrids and electric cars should be forced on people, then don't realize the effect it will have on ranchers, truckers and other people who need big engines to get goods to them and do their job.

Anyway /rant

Overall Americans want the choice of what engine they have in their car and as a capitalist society Chevy or any other Auto maker wouldn't be building these V8's if there wasn't a demand for them.
