Interior refresh on 2002 Trans Am snowballed into a full blown project

Featured Replies

Hi All, I bought my 2002 Trans Am in 2020 and it had a lot of smaller interior issues I wanted to fix. Sagging visors, broken AC vents, broken ash tray lid, missing door lock switches, etc. I collected the parts and began work and was slowly making headway when a clutch replacement/upgrade went sideways. I installed a new Tick adjustable Master Cylinder and was having issues bleeding it correctly. I got a little too aggressive on a vacuum bleed, I assume, and the seal at the pedal rod side failed and leaked brake fluid under the carpet into the driver's side floor boards. This lead to pulling the seats and carpet out which revealed huge stains and some carpet rot under the rear seats. This is where the snowballing started. I decided to put in sound dampening, replace all the speakers and aftermarket amp, install a better head unit that came with a backup camera, dash cam, and GPS antenna. This led to re-wiring for the amp that turned into 3 amps, sub-woofers, new shock sensor for the alarm system, etc. etc. etc. Life got in the way and the car sat without an interior for 3 years years AFTER Tick lost my master and finally found it, fixed it, and shipped it back, which took 18 months. I ended up replacing the replacement carpet when I tried to pre-cut all the seat belt holes, seat holes, and such. But after getting some much needed time off I was able to push through and finally get it done. Now I have a modern stereo (that stays on when going over bumps), 10 speakers and 3 amps, a back-up camera, collision warning, GPS if my phone dies, and an interior that doesn't smell like coffee and chewing tobacco with a hint of spoiled milk. I was able to get everything else fixed but still want better sun visors as the modern ones come with shade extenders.

Thanks! It "sounds" better for sure and smells a whole lot better inside. I have only cranked up the stereo one to see how well it handled high volume and my rear view mirror vibrated too much and pointed down to where I was looking at the carpet, lol. And that is with just 1 sub. I want to complete the big-3 upgrade before putting the second sub in as I will be bridging that amp to 2 ohms and that will increase my power drain. With the stereo off the interior is pretty quiet, I didn't do the doors and can hear road noise from that location. I am pretty satisfied with how it turned out. At least I can drive the car again, and that is what counts most.
