Guys, has anyone used 65 or later finned cast drums on their 57- 64 9.3 diff ?

57 to 64 have 11x 2 inch shoes and i have what looks like a 65 onwards finned drum on my 64 diff i am using and i justA wanted to know if any one has used these before or is there any down side to this ?

65 and onwards are still 5 x 5 pcd but 2.5 inch wide shoes.

Can anyone tell me the storey about 1964 and how mid year Pontiac started using finned cast rear drums that where 11inch x 2 inch

The 1964 Pontiac Bonneville Factory Assembly Manual will have the part number. If your book is like mine in 1970, you will absolutely need a magnifying glass to read it.

Once you get that part number, the Hollander Parts Interchange book for 1964 will tell you what other vehicles also used it - GM and possibly other North American manufacturers. These books were a junk yard parts man's bible for cross referencing parts - the grease for increasing sales.

This particular copy of the 1964 Hollander book (30th Edition) a little ratty looking would surely benefit you about now. I will look for a better example.

The 29th Edition for 1963 and the 31st Edition for 1965 might also be useful. eBay has one of these, too. Much better looking.

After a lot ! and i mean Alot for searching with mr googles help, i find that from mid 1964 all body pontiacs where fitted with the heavy duty finned drums !

i hunted high and low for raybestos 2265r drums and no one had any ! seams that they have stopped making them !!! BUT fvp suply them !!

the part number for anyone hunting in the future is 123-62025.

And thanks to rockauto, i have a pair of brand new correct drums for the rear of my 9.3 inch girl!!. they are the correct depth which is 100.2mm and thats very important ! as there is a 116mm version which is for later model diffs

these new drums are heading straight to my brake shop to have the shoes relinned and matched to the drums. so i am very excited to be making progress !!
