Final Fantasy VII Thread

Featured Replies

After chatting with some other folks on another forum I'm frequent on, I went out and got myself a used slim PS2 today, and a copy of both Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX.

I haven't played this game in YEARS. I wanna say I last played this game back in 2002, and I gotta say...this game is +13 years old...and it can STILL suck you in and make you become infatuated with its storyline.

Currently 2 hours in, I'm already up to the stint across Sector Six with just Cloud and Aeris. Currently level grinding up, Aeris is just too weak for my liking, and the enemies in this area are loaded with EXP. Just about the level up most of my materia. Bolt + All is saving my ass left and right in packs of enemies.

Feel free to chime in with your own strategy advice and such. As I'm gonna keep updating this thread with my progress...so it's gonna be rather involved. :P

Never played them... Never really interested me lol

Give it a try, Jimmy. The gameplay is simple to pick up on, and the storyline will suck you in as soon as the game begins.

The battle system will give anyone who loves strategic gameplay something new to conquer and master. I mean, 13 years old, and it still gains new fans every year.

Love love love this game. One of my favorites. I picked it back up last year and got sucked in for months. Went for basically 100% completion and am pretty much there. It is fantastic. Best story out of any game ever.

OMG I HATE HELL HOUSES.

Still level grinding in sector six, and I've encountered about ten of them in a row. They don't give much EXP for the amount of HP they have, and they're just flat out annoying. ARG.

Cloud is art level 13 currently, and equipped with the basic three magic materia (Fire, Ice and Bolt) with Enemy All locked with bolt. I'm passed halfway on AP levels for gaining level two magic attacks.

Aeris is still on level 9 (ARRRGGGG) and she's heavily reliant on magic attacks. She has Cure, Ice and Bolt. They're still sub par to Cloud's magic levels, her attacks are a shade under three digits of damage, and it doesn't cut it right now.

Moved on after getting Aeris to level 11, Cloud's at level 14. I'm now at the part where Tifa was taken to Wall Market, and how do I have to save Tifa? Why...crossdress Cloud, of course! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Used to play online when I was in Japan. Got REALLY boring fast and never played again.

Marky Mark needs some patience. :P

Finally got Aeris to level 12 when I left the busted road section on sector six, already went through the Wall Market, Cloud cross-dressing fun. :P

Aeris and Tifa bulked up in the sewer dungeon, and train graveyard, they're at 13 now, and Tifa's magic is acceptable, as is Aeris'.

The fight with Reno was cake, even with Barrett's lousy magic capabilities. His attack power is too low, need to fix that. And already got the steal materia, I forgot how handy that is. ;)

Sector 7 is history, and went back to Wall Market to get to Shinra. After the puzzle fun, the building was now ready to be attackzored by me. I chose the stairs, since I always remembered using the front gate and causing commotion. So I went up stairs...and more stairs...and more, and more, and more. ;)

lolstairs

Then some easy battles on floor 59. Floor 60 was irritating at times, sneaking Barret and Tifa by the guards. Got caught right AT THE VERY END four times. :) after that, it's just exploring the floors up to 65. 62, I remembered you go through the library to figure out the mayor's password or something. Not near a computer, and too lazy to surf my blackberry for a guide through that section, I just winged it. And what do ya know? Apparently the old coot likes the word, "BOMB". :lol2: Floor 63 wasn't too hard to figure out with the air ducts to grab the items. Too bad they were kinda useless. I saved on Floor 64, it was 1am, and I couldn't stay awake anymore. :lol2:

Today, finished up the Shinra building adventure. Level grinded a bit finding the Midgar model pieces. Then got up to the next floor. One of the enemies in this area has a powerful weapon for Cloud (Hardedge) but had to get my ass kicked as I made Tifa try to steal it over and over again. :lol2: totally worth it, since now Cloud has better materia support and can kill most enemies with his physical attacks again. :lol2:

Red XIII joins up, Aeris is saved, and after some ass kicking, I'm out of Midgar and back to level grinding before all the memory sequences at Kalm.

Ah all the memories. I thik Im gonna go home and gain some BP at the abttle square to get omni slash and try to level up my KOTR so I can beat emerald and ruby

No, I don't need patience. I've just never been able to stay playing a video game for a really long time. Which is why I have bought and sold 2 Xboxes in the last year. I'm not really a gamer...

Done with the memory sequence...

Seeing Sephiroth use his All + Bolt3, Ice3, Fire3 made me jelly. :lol2:

Seeing Sephiroth totally flip from SOLDIER to "I'M A CETRA, FVCK YO SHIT" really just makes you want to kick his ass. Although I forgot that Cloud can't recall his battle with Sephiroth (lame  ) and WTF? How did he just happen to forget how Tifa survives? :woot:

Anyway, new materia to level up (2 Earth, 1 Heal) and my current materia is close to leveling up. Currently my party is Cloud (LVL 17), Aeris (LVL 15) and Red XIII (LVL 16), which I renamed him Skyforger. Yeah, haters gonna hate.

Still level grinding around Kalm and Midgar, working my way to the Chocobo farm. Gonna be fun getting across that damn pond. :lol2:

AND STILL LEVEL GRINDIN'. Not going to stop until everyone is at least at level 21, and Fire, Ice and Bolt have reached level 2.

*side note*

FFVII will have been out for 14 years this September...I mean, this game came out on a console from 1994, with 32bit 3D graphics...and yet, it's still one of the most talked about, loved, compared and it still gains new fans every year. It has become an absolute standard in RPGs. I mean, here I am, completely sucked into this game, like it was released last week. :lol2:

I bred my chocabos last night.

Got a Blue female and Green male. Raced them a few times and did two battles in the battle square. Left it on bc when you leave the battle square you loose your points and there is no save in there.

On a side note I dunno if you have beaten it before but you will figure out a lot more about Clouds little run in with Sephiroth in the reactor and such much later in the game.

Oh, I know how much the story twists and turns. Again, I don't recall most of it, but I still have a vague idea of the storyline in my head. To boot, I'm just updating as I go. :lol2:

Right now, I'm just level grinding (see a pattern?) in the Mythrill Mines.

Make sure you run around in the woods to get yuffie. Should be able to get her in the woods by Junon. Just save before you go in so you arent screwed if she steals all your shit.

sounds like a porno :lol2:

  • Author

I totally forgot about Yuffie. I forgot you have to talk to her in a certain way for her to join

the quest. She just ended up stealing 200gil

Anyway, leveled everyone up to 21, and did the Fort Condor side quest. Whooped some Shinra ass. Got the double AP weapon for Red, "Magic Comb" DEFINITELY gonna come in handy. Leveled up a bit more. Encountered Yuffie, but screwed up. Went on to Junon, fought the boss there...TOO easy, about four casts of Bolt2 and Ice2, Cloud's and Red's Limit Break and he was toast. Saved the little girl, Percilla, and found a way into Junon's base. YAY DOLPHIN.

Cloud (as did everyone else) goes undercover as Shinra soldiers, and sneaks onto the boat carrying new President Rufus, and that annoying goddamned Hiedigger. I want to boot his tubby ass off a cliff. :lol2: on teh boat, Sephiroth appears with Jenova. Gives the eerie message, "The Time has come..." and the first encounter with Jenova ensues. Too bad I whooped her ass quick. My favorite lineup is quickly becoming, Cloud, Aeris and Red. I laughed when I realized Jenova has 4000HP in this encounter, killed her off in only 8 turns. LEVEL GRINDIN' WORKS, YO.

Off the ship, in Corel...no level grinding here, there's one enemy type, and they don't give much EXP or AP. FUUUUUUUUU... Currently on the Mt. Corel area...

:lol2: I love how everybody is seriously talking about this then Joe comes in the thread :lol2:

Joe's just old. :nuts::P

UPDATE:

I upped a few of their limit breaks, Aeris is on Limit 2 finally.

Right now, I made it to North Corel, where Barret gets smacked around by some locals. Apparently Shinra built the reactor in the mountain, then Shinra soldiers raized the town to the grown. Barret puts all the blame on himself, but it's still left wide open as to WHY it's his fault. Now I'm at Gold Saucer, Barret ran off, and I have Cat Sith in the party now. I actually want to make something of his abilities, as I didn't the first time around. If I remember, the next part up is where Dyne (Barret's buddy) went on a rampage, and they all confused Barret for Dyne (which makes me :lol2: )

  • Author

I've already gotten out of Gold Saucer, and I'm in Gongaga, by the destroyed reactor. Level grindin' once more. My current party has double AP weapons and armor, and I'm just going to town ranking up, Revive, Heal, Seal, and Restore right now. Pretty much all my magic attacks are on level 2, aside from Quake and Bio.

Right now, the party is at this:

Cloud-LV 27

Red-LV 25

Aeris-LV 24

Barret-LV 24

Tifa-LV 24

Cat Sith-LV 23

Cloud, Red and Aeris is becoming my usual party (better not get used to that) and I fought Reno and Rude in the Gongaga jungle, and that took four turns. ;)

Battle starts:

Aeris is already at her limit break; casts "Seal Evil". Both are inflicted with Stop effect. Red with Enemy Skill casts Aqualung twice, +1800 for each of them both turns combined, Reno leaves first, Rude gets a simple attack from Cloud, and that's that. :lol2:

I love it when I smack around tough opponents like that. :lol2:

MORE UPDATES, BITCHES:

AHA.

I forgot Yuffie appears in the Gongaga forest as well. Figured out the pattern to getting her to join after the battle.

And would ya look at that, I don't have to bring her up to speed! She's already at level 27.

Right now, just grinding everyone up to level 30. CURRENTLY:

Cloud-LV 29

Red-LV 26

Aeris-LV 26

Barret-LV 25

Tifa-LV 26

Cat Sith-LV 26

Yuffie-LV 27

Not gonna enter Cosmo until eveyone hits level 30.

So far, my materia is growing rapidly. Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh and Choco/Mog have already hit level 2, and already hit level two with all my Earth materia, as did all my All materia raised another level as well.

The enemies are excellent in Cosmo, I'm getting a lot of EXP and AP after each battle, a few hours of this, and level 30 will be easily achieved.

Got omnislash in the battle square last night. Heading back to the chocobo ranch tonight to get a black chocobo, level him up, then the Gold.

  • Author

Finally stopped level grinding when everyone hit level 32. Cloud got Fire up to level 3 (Fire3 + All = badassness)

and All up another level. Shiva, Ifrit and Titan leveled up as well, and loads more AP for all the other materia.

The Cosmo excursion was fairly simple. The Gi caves were a sinch, and the boss at the end didn't even put up a fight. :P I cast Life on him with Aeris from the get go, and no points of damage were shown, just "DEATH". Fvcking win.

At Nibelhiem, the twists in the story started to really kick in, as everyone doubts Cloud's story, since the town is perfectly fine. Sephiroth in the basement of the Shinra Manson goes on about the oncoming Reunion, and foreshadows the impending doom on the planet. Then of course, off through the Nibelhiem mountains. The Materia Keeper was TOO EASY. :woot:

Cloud, Aeris and Yuffie are my party:

Starts off with it casting "Trine", to which Aeris learned it. I already had Cloud and Aeris at their Limit Breaks, Cloud used Meteorain, and I have Aeris use Fury Band. Limit break for cloud again! Yuffie uses Greased Lightning, and Cloud hits again with Meteorain. BOOM DONE. :lol2:

Now I'm at Rocket Town, and soon Cid will be joining the fun.

:woot: I love how everybody is seriously talking about this then Joe comes in the thread :lol2:

:D thats what I do. :P
