In need of a few parts

Featured Replies

I was just given my grandfather's car. I need a few parts to make the exterior original. First, I need the side trim from front to rear on both sides.

Hello,

And welcome to the group.

You can try "Original Parts Group" and  "Ames Performance Engineering" for this trim.   There is also a company on Amazon and EBay called "Automotive Authority LLC" that has it listed as "vintage style 5/8th inch black and chrome side body trim molding with formed pointed ends" for $59.99.  This will be two, thirteen foot pieces. Plenty for a Catalina.

The minor trouble here is that your current clips that held the original trim on will need to be removed. The new trim material is held on with some super mega sticky 3M adhesive tape. Removing the old clips is not difficult but the paint will need to be very clean for the adhesive tape to stick well and permanently.  I think rubbing alcohol is recommended.

If you are looking for original parts, they are out there but the search and the cost will be tougher and more expensive. See below.

Thank you for replying.  I have looked at that trim, but eBay says it will not fit my car. The original is wider than 5/8". I really don't care what color it is, I can paint the center to match my car. I will look into the parts forum, thank you.

We need more pic's.. Didn't anyone mention how much we like to check out rides and watch projects come together??  Welcome to the site.:indian:

I will look at my car (a 1970 Catalina) when I return from Michigan tomorrow but I'm thinking 5/8ths of an inch is darned close to what came off my car.

Kathy - there is a Pontiac exclusive dismantling yard in 29 Palms California. Its called Franks Pontiac Parts. They have a full size car parts section. If it is pictured, its for sale. You can Google them. They are listed in our junkyard section too.
