hi, what is the purpose of the O2 sensor on the 1983 5 Liter parisienne, since this engine has no injection.

what is the purpose of the O2 sensor on my 1983 parisienne wagon?

it has no injection engine.

The Oxygen sensor...Along with the Throttle Position sensor on the Quadra Jet...E4M carburetor...Are used to send the signal/voltage to the early GM Computer Command Control system (CCC)...In order to more closely/Precisely meter the Air/Fuel mixture flowing through the carburetor into the combustion chambers in the Clyinder heads... There are two wires on the carburetor...One of the wires is a key fed a constant 12 volts to the carburetor the other wire is a ground that is cycled (interrupts the ground circuit) By the Engine Controller...The two wires are connected to the Mixture Control Solenoid (MCS)...That is located in the main fuel bowl inside the Carburetor...When the MSC is DeEnergized...Spring Pressure pushes the Metering Rods up out of the Main Jets forcing the fuel/Air mixture into a rich Condition...When the MCS is energized a Magnetic Field is induced to the plunger over the Metering Rods...Pulling the plunger down to force the Metering Rods into the the Main Jets forcing the fuel/air mixture into a lean burn condition...

If the system is working correctly....When you turn the key to the on position you should hear a clicking noise at the Carburetor...That is the metering rods being being cycled by the Engine controller through the Master Control Solenoid...

thanks very much for your reply.

i am planning to convert this car to propane with an Impco 300a mixer cause here in the Netherlands propane is 3x cheaper than petrol.

now i know the sensor is for the carb. only so i can just shut it of.
