1959 Catalina Tri Power won't start cold without starting fluid

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 59 Catalina Tripower I'm restoring that I'm unable to get it to start cold without a little shot of starter fluid in the center carb.

One small shot of starting fluid and it starts immediately with no issues at all. And it starts warm with no problem.

Fuel pump and filter have been replaced.

The choke looks to be working ok and the fast idle works.

I'm super excited that I finally got it running after working on it all summer and it runs freakin great, the last thing I need to figure out is the cold start.

I think I found the problem, the accelerator pump doesn't appear to be working.

Only thing I could think of that would cause your prob is the acc pump. My question is...does it also bog when accelerating?

@JUSTA6 - It bogs a little but not alot frankly.

I held the choke open so I sould look down the carb and worked the accelerator a few times and can't see any gas squirting into the carb so I'm gonna replace it and see if that solves the problem.
