So I had to spend yesterday playin catchup round here N putting stuff away.  Bought a 3/8 X 6 bolt to replace the pivot bolt on the Alternator  ( in case I have to move it to the other side)  Besides having to rewire, I would have to replace heater hose and make new alt  brackets.  I picked up a 7/16 X 6 bolt (next size up) in case I can tap N make this work where it belongs.  Was happy to see the 7/16 will fit the alternator after removing the LIL tube spacers I never knew was there.  Too hot out N needed to take a break in the A/C.  New bolts are grade 8 the one that bent up and broke was a grade 5.  Something I grabbed from my collection.  Have some pic's N maybe a few more when I head back out after lunch.   YES I still take my GM break....

Funny, I thought your wife was a stricter task master than that.....

Fav reply...... Add it to the list Honey.  Have to spend some time real quick gettin the engine out of the Sunbird.  Have a set of heads but need my rockers, pushrods and valves, out of the old one. Shop will slip them in and rebuild and valve job as part of my work order so I don't end up BACK in line for work done.  Will also use my timing cover, flywheel.  Might have my block back this week if my parts come in. It's clean and ready to rebuild.

Justa 66 is back on the road N ready for the Pontiac show tomorrow at Bakers.  JustaG6 will be there.  Managed to tap the hole up to 7/16.  The pivot hole in the alt had a spacer, when removed fits the 7/16 bolt perfect.  Straightened up the adjuster bracket on top N put er back together again.  Fired up to gas squirting all over.  The 4in piece from my filter to the hardline inlet for the intake rotted. Of course after checking out my box of fuel lines, vacume lines, tubing. I didn't have 3/8 fuel line and had to go to Oriellys for 4 in of  line. finally got her squared around to go.

Ok lets get a visual here.  This is the bolt that broke #5 grade, Replaced with a #8 grade, but there is lil to no pressure on that pivot bolt.  How did it get sooo bent in a straight tube?  You can see the slight bend.  Let alone enough pressure to break it off.  That spot was made for the alternator....cozy.  Last I'm glad I didn't have to grind on the waterpump to set it up and attach a slide bracket. (to change sides on the alt) Epic parts fail............

Here's some good ones from the internet.

There’s a certain pride and joy that comes with repairing your own items. The skills needed are unknown, the entirety of the process is up in the air, and the results are always in question. If done correctly, you have the satisfaction of completing the job yourself (whilst saving money), and totally not looking like an idiot when you show up to the repair shop.

Buffing the Beard Out

If you weren’t aware, buffing is dangerous, just take it from this lad. Believe it or not, this man had a full beard when he started his shift. Now he doesn’t. And no, that’s not a prop in his left hand, holding some fake beard. That is his beard that was brutally taken from his face. You can see it in his eyes.

5.7 inch Carrillo Rod...

From a  Bored and Stroked  (273 CID) Straight Six Cylinder Chevrolet Race engine...(Limited Sportsman) The car owner against my advice changed the rev limiter setting from 6800 RPMs to 7500 RPMs...Was a half a second faster then anything else on the track..(Ace Speedway Altamahaw NC) For a couple laps..Before the engine blew up in a Spectacular fireball dropping oil everywhere causing the car to slam head on into the concrete wall at speed... Destroying the Chassis as well as the engine...(fortunately No one hurt) After all the mayhem I found this connecting rod in the grandstand...We figured that the crankshaft must have basically Vaporized...Along with the Main bearing caps...As we never found any of it...When we shoveled what was left of the parts we could find off the ground...The only thing on the engine that was reusable was the Carburetor...Even the intake manifold had a quarter sized hole in the bottom of it...The exhaust header was  mangled from where the exploding engine parts hit it when the side of the block came apart...

Yeah - that was the car we hired. I tried to tell you how smug I felt pootling around emission free (for short periods) but when I put the hammer down, it blew my hair back...if I had any.

So does this driver/owner get the award for most hateful / spiteful engine abuser? Cranks simply don't "vaporize" with doing something hateful!

Absolutely... Anyone who will Knowingly/Intentionally turn a Chevrolet Straight Six engine 7000 or more RPMs...(Thats just Downright Mean)....Has to be a Certified Sadist...I have seen my share of Catastrophic engine Failures through the years...But never one so Completely Destroyed as this one was...

This happened back in 2010/11  The car owner/driver was an Overly Privileged 17/18 year old kid...Who was Completely funded by his Grandpa... Who had way more money than sense...I'm 99% sure that I have pics of the carnage on one of these old phones...

Would it still be possible to to access/transfer any pics from these phones....???

Not familiar with these phones specifically but in these days, these phones didn’t have much internal storage so there is likely an SD card which either has your photos or if you can power it up switch your photos to. Then just need to find a SD card reader that will connect to your computer via USB on Amazon (or your favorite tech store) and can hopefully read them off of it.

EPIC.......  Still in awe of those words of wisdom.  That's why he's the top dawg round here!!!!   While we are on the subject of pic's.  I tried to copy Kiwi's pic with the POTM frame and transfer it to a message to him.  Pic went but not the POTM frame.  Thought he might put it in his album or maybe add it as his signature to mark his amazing feat of POTM.  Can you send him some words of wisdom from the all knowing.

Ah, ya, the POTM frame isn’t an image so won’t come with. Have to do a screenshot to get that, like so:
