04 Grand Prix ignition/battery issues

Recommended Posts

I have an 04 Pontiac Grand Prix. Lost the original key about 2 weeks ago, had a new one made and programmed at the dealership last week. Worked just fine up until a couple days ago. Went out to start my car in the morning, and it said "Starting failed due to theft system" or something along those lines (same message you get when programming new key.) Went thru the re-programming process again a couple times, that didnt work. Jump started my car this morning and it fixed the issue. Can't determine whether this is a battery/alternator problem or a problem with the ignition/computer. Any input is appreciated, just trying to save the hassle/expense of bringing it into a shop if possible. Thanks
