Jeremy Clarkson, Top Gear host, suspended by BBC after 'fracas'

Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended by the BBC after what it called a "fracas" with a producer.

Sources said he was accused of hitting the producer in an incident last week, and the remaining three episodes of the current series might not be broadcast.

The BBC confirmed one episode - due for broadcast on Sunday - would not be shown, but gave few further details.

Clarkson, 54, has not commented, but has been joking on social media about films that could replace Sunday's show.

He was given what he called his "final warning" last May after claims he used a racist word during filming.

At the time, he said the BBC had told him he would be sacked if he made "one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time".

In a statement earlier, the BBC said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.

"No-one else has been suspended.

"Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday.

"The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."

Things aren't looking too promising, he wrote in his latest column in the Sun that he wants to quit the BBC and move on.

Yep. Lots 'could' be ignored ... physical assault was too much. Particularly with them under so much scrutiny after turning a blind eye to Saville for so many years. I expect the bosses at BBC are a lot more upset at the firing than Clarkson himself is... particularly since he sold his stake in the show.

I'm hard pressed to believe he didn't do this deliberately to get out. The ones I feel sorry for are the workers. Both Hamster and Cap't Slow have enough fame that they'll not lack for work when the show dies ... but the people behind the scenes .. nothing for them.

:agreed: Prof

The BBC will lose a lot of money in firing JC. I think the worst part is the ending for the fans too, this is not how I imagined a show that has gone on as long as it did would end and on such a sour note.

Seems like May and Hammond might be choosing to leave (which I thought they would):

And now the higher ups at BBC are tossing about that he might be allowed back.

Now that the BBC has shown that they're strong and tough on their stars (Saville) the lawyers will come in and Clarkson will probably have to undergo some anger management class, host (free) some schoolroom talks about how violence is bad, and maybe even have to do a show with Oprah or Whoopie. Then when he's suitably reformed, they'll invite him back.

Interesting. I really had a feeling that BBC wouldn't give up the cashcow that is TopGear.

If I was Clarkson, I don't know if I would go back

An offer to defect?

I think they already did a show on iron curtain cars, didn't they?

Well, remember ... he did do a really nice piece when they were in Crimea. Spoke glowingly about the sub pens.

True and he didn't get shot when he was in St. Petersburg at the beginning of this season with that Hover Van. I just think long exposure, something is going to happen, like always

Latest Top Gear update: Their new host can't drive and talk at the same time. Good thing he doesn't have to use a cell phone.
