Convertible frame

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I've taken the top of a 68 firebird and found the frame is a bit out of whack. I've tried a few adjustments but nothing seems to help. Has anyone had this issue before? Do I need to try an adjustment I don't know about or has this piece bent out if shape over time?

Can you show some more detailed pictures and describe your problem in a more detail please? Is this happening after disassembling the frames to paint/detail them? Is this happening as the cable tightens? Are the bushing in good shape? Is the pump and electrics work properly and evenly?

All the bushing and pump are still working well. I haven't disassembled the top but it looks as though the previous owner has removed it for whatever reason and just put it back wrong but I can't figure out what needs to be done. The front passenger side sits a tad higher but it's been that way since I got the car. The misalignment doesn't affect the tops functionality but I don't like the idea of keeping it like this. The front of the rail is also low but not as much. It doesn't seems out of shape dispite the looks so my only guess is an adjustment but nothing in the fisher book is working for this. I have some more images including the passenger side which shows how it should be

(Don't know why some images are sideways though)

Which ones are sideways? I will download them, rotate the sideways ones, and then compare them to my shop manual. it will take a few days only because I am as busy as crap with my son getting ready for high school baseball try outs in 2 weeks and I have to schlep him everywhere for practice.
