DTM Dreamer - Tails FanFic

Featured Replies

I've been on my creative itch to write, hasn't been around since 09. This idea for this fanfic has been brewing in my head for weeks now. Along with this, I have three others I've been drafting as well. This one is actually relevant to us gearheads, and you already know Tails is my favorite character from the Sonic games. This is the first chapter, and I'm still developing the storyline. Expect a lot of excitement in the next few chapters soon!

Chapter 1:

It had been 15 years since Sonic and his friends had been tossed into the alternate reality of their planet Mobius. They adapted to modern human life, started getting used to their habits, popular trends, things of that nature.

Now, Sonic was always perceived as the hero, the star of the group of alternate reality travelers. Always in his shadow, Miles "Tails" Prower, had always took a backseat to Sonic's heroics. Despite being highly knowledgeable in mechanics of all sorts, especially in aeronautics, Miles still never got full recognition for his talents, well...in his eyes at least.

Years passed, Miles grew older, and involved himself more into engineering in the aerospace and automotive fields. Sonic's celebrity status continued to grow, until finally...Robotnik was captured. His capture this time was truly meaningful. The US government got involved, and in a three month span, all of the twisted doctor's resources and creations were ruthlessly hunted down and terminated. Robotnik was sentenced two life terms, isolated to solitary confinement, in a government high security underground prison. It's whereabouts were unknown.

Time continued to pass, and Sonic's celebrity status slowed, but never faded. Despite Miles growing apart from Sonic's overly youthful pace, they still met up from time to time, and Sonic always gave him half of all his earnings from endorsements and sponsors. Sonic knew he wouldn't have gotten to that level without him, but giving money could only help so much...

Miles held a job at a small Boeing development center, always perfecting the company's turbine engines outsourced from well known companies. But Miles was growing bored of the position. He was 23 now, no longer the small, shy little two tailed fox. He stood at 4'11", his looks were more matured, but still never outgrew those infamous shoes of his. Very stern, upfront, sometimes even harshly blunt, Miles developed the habit of calling it like he saw it with brutal honesty when needed. He was in a very competitive industry, it came with the territory.

Miles never really spent the money he got from his job, or from Sonic. Miles didn't even need to work if he chose to, but he never wanted to become lazy. While pondering one day at work, something caught Miles's eyes on his laptop in the lab.

An Internet forum he'd been long posting on, about automotive racing, engineering and the auto racing hobby, he stumbled upon a link...a huge overhaul to the country's big Automotive Racing leagues, the S.C.C.A. was allowing a wide variety of new touring car, open wheel, and rally race leagues and championship series.

Being quite the engineering geek, the series that caught his eye...late model DTM racing. Miles loved the insane aero, suspension, and drivetrain engineering that went into these German racing beasts. A large number of DTM teams in Europe were selling off a huge slew of race models, with parts, for unbelievable prices. The higher up amateurs could even afford them! Miles's heart skipped a beat. He could easily afford one, or two!

Miles had to go home early, his mind racing with possibilities, figuratively and quite literally. Punching out, his boss sighs, he told Miles he was chasing clouds, and should invest in something more worthwhile. Miles didn't care, he didn't understand the passion behind this. He packed up his laptop, and headed out front to his trusty old Ford Focus three door.

I can't believe they're selling these prestigious racing machines! Better yet, I can't wait to get my hands on one...see what makes it tick, and best of all...race it! Miles's thoughts were going a mile a minute. His life was about to take on a new twist, and even Sonic would be envious.

Miles pulls into the apartment complex, his assigned parking spot underneath the car port. He pulls in, leaves the car in first, and sets the handbrake. Grabbing his laptop bag, Miles hops out, and locks the little green hatchback. He makes his way to his front door, key in hand. Miles's apartment was just a simple one floor, five room apartment. He didn't need much space, nor did he desire a large living space.

Opening his front door, he makes his way over to his big old leather couch he found second hand. A lot of Miles's furniture was secondhand, but you'd never know seeing their condition. Miles sits down, and lays his laptop bag next to him. Unzipping the front flap, he slides out his prized laptop, and slides the bag onto the third cushion of the couch. Miles unwraps the power cord, and plugs it into the power strip he laid out next to the couch.

"Alright, let's see what's out in the market for one of these bad boys," Miles gleefully says to himself. He wakes his laptop out of sleep mode, and it picks up on his wireless router. He goes back into the message boards where he saw the news. Sure enough, somebody had left a link for the website for the race cars for sale. Miles's eyes lit up with excitement.

Miles takes out his phone and checks his bank account. His funds had become so great, and his spending so little, Miles often forgot to check the account's balance. While his phone retrieved info, he surfed the website for a potential car. All of the cars had been stripped of their respected livery schemes, just basic single colors. The prices were obviously in the +$150,000 range, the prices didn't even phase him.

     "Ah, my bank balance!"

Miles looks at his phone, and is surprised.

"Wow...I really just don't spend anything, haha," Miles chuckles. His account read exactly 1.7 million. Sonic's last three deposits were large, but Miles never bothered checking. The history showed the three deposits at $450,000 a piece. Miles was surprised, that was the largest amount he's ever given for cutting his shares.

"Sonic usually spends his money, I'm surprised he gave me that much. I haven't heard from him all spring, hope he's alright,"

Miles goes back to car hunting. The years were ranging from 1999 to 2007. Mercedes, Opel, Audi, all amazing machines of speed, aerodynamics and technology. Miles searches the classifieds for hours, when finally something jumps out at him...and a great deal, too!

     "It's perfect!"

On the screen, not one, but two 2001 Mercedes CLK DTM race cars, complete with spare body parts, engine parts, wheels and tires, and a tractor trailer to transport. This was from the infamous D2 Factory Mercedes team, and it all had a $500,000 price tag. Both CLK's were solid black. Miles wanted them, he sees the phone number on the ad, and gives them a call.

     BBRRRRRRR BBRRRRRRR BBRRRRRRR

     "Hello?"

"Hi, I'm inquiring about the two CLK DTM racers you have, I have the money on hand, and I'm very interested in buying,"

Miles smiles, he was about to become a race car driver.

Holy crap! Interest!

The outline for the second chapter was on the backburner for awhile...I guess with my newfound free time, I should continue.

Feedback on the existing passage?

I enjoyed it. I haven't done much reading in a while, but I've been getting back into it. I used to play sonic games but had never thought of extending their stories into fan fiction. I think what you've written is very interesting, especially since you included cars and a sense of modesty into it, which is probably why I like it more, lol.

At first, some parts seemed over described, as in some of the actions that Tails is physically doing. But, after reading it again it seems to show the way he lives his life, I guess that he pays attention to little details like that. Maybe you weren't going for that at all, but it's kind of what i took away from it.

Either way, I'm hoping you post more. I enjoyed the cliffhanger ending =P.

The way I'm developing Tails's personality, he's become cold to keep others from exploiting his physical weakness (size and strength) and, he's developed a small annoyance towards Sonic because he was always second to Sonic's fame and recognition.

Tails has finally found something that not only could be excel at, but even develop fame of his own. Tails's newfound fame will bump with Sonic's own ego, and expect his CLK DTM racer to take on Sonic himself on Germany's most infamous racetrack.
