3rd gen Firebird issues

Featured Replies

I am new to the 3rd gen & I just bought a 1989 Firebird factory (w/ASC) convertable.

one general issue I have is my headlights pop-up good when I turn them on, but they make no attempt to power down when turned off, are the motors supposed to reverse? any known repairs?

also does the CHMSL in the rear wing require all 5 bulbs to be good in order to work? need some unique weatherseals for the top, any sources available? also, the fiberglass rear boot has twin solenoids to release it, they don't work, and I can't find any switch to try to engage them (use manual pull wires). thanks

Vettes and Firebirds are known for having healding motor issues. they can usaly be fixed with a kit that replaces the gears. I would think the rear 3rd brake light is not like x-mass lights and one goes out and they all go out.

Agreed ^ practically all cars with the moving up and down headlights have some sort of issue, why you really don't see them anymore.

Try Steele Rubber Products or SoftSeal products for the weather seals.

When you say "twin solenoids" are you talking about the gas struts that hold that heavy glass up when you open the boot? Otherwise, please attach a picture or two, since I am not certain what item you are refering to.

The flip up head lights are suppose to go up and down when you turn the lights on and off. So a repair kit or motor replacement maybe necessary.
