63' Tempest pitman arm needed

Featured Replies

Looking for a replacement pitman arm for my Tempest. The only ones I can find are core/rebuilds at way too much $$$. Does anyone have a source for one in good shape? Appreciate it.

Have you looked at Ames Performance Engineering in their catalog? If you have a part number in mind, the Hollister Exchange Manual will cross reference your part number against other vehicles that use the same part number. I'm regret that things cost a lot of money but . . . .

Hi, yes Ames was my first stop. After searching quite a bit, I am looking at sending it off to rebuild. Rare Parts in Stockton Ca had the best price by far. Thanks.

Hello Greg,

I should have thought about Rare Parts in Stockton because I got great, all new front-end steering gear from them for my Catalina. All fit perfectly and they will be great for your car.

Good to hear Rick. Now, if I could only find a inner tie rod for my steering and I'd be complete. Rare parts have none.

If you have a worn-out inner tie rod, I do believe that Rare Parts can rebuild it. I can't find that service on their web site but I seem to remember that service when I talked to their sales department. Give them a call to see what's up.

If you are straight up missing things, consider the junk yards below:

Hi Greg

Even the b body tie rod ends are hard to find , here in nz

I found it’s easiest to get them rebuilt ! We have bricom in Auckland who does a fantastic job and well priced .

And getting your worn parts rebuilt means you know they will fit when you get them back !

Well, my 63 Tempest continues to be a unicorn. Removed the shot pitman arm, sent it off to Rare Parts to refurbish. Great guys BTW, upfront, fast and fair.

Cliff from Rare Parts called this morning early, asked if this part came from my car? I confirmed it did. Reason he asked was it's not a 63 pitman arm- it's a 62 part. Different spline. He and his crew figured the car was a 62-1/2. Which would explain the difference. Lesson; if you get a spare part from someone you don't know - verify before you send it off for machining. Seems obvious, but Cliff says they see it every week.

Shout out to Rare Parts for catching that and confirming.
