1973 TH400 selector shaft seal ?

Featured Replies

I've got a non-Pontiac with TH400 decoded as 1973 Pontiac application. Car getting work done at a restoration shop and they told me there doesn't seem to be any external access to re-seal the selector shaft. The shop contacted multiple transmission shops, including some who specialize in older cars and they didn't have any explanation. "Never heard of that".

Is there something unique and peculiar to 1973 TH400s re: selector shaft seal access and replacement?

correction to the above...the mechanic's explanation wasn't clear so he texted me a pic. the shaft is flush to the hole diameter so there's no way to remove it from the outside to re-seal with a new o-ring. No space for the seal removal tool.

So, is this just a 1973 thing ?

Any good trans shop should be able to fix that for you Njg

Pontiac turbo 400 are justA the same as Chev ones and that selector arm and shaft will need pulling out and new o rings from inside 🍻
