Who Makes the "Best" Wiring Harnesses?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking into replacing the goat's wiring harnesses over the winter so I'm looking for info on which suppliers have the best product.

I'm not having any electrical issues but the car's wiring is original and so I thought I should replace the wiring before something really bad happens.

Thanks in Advance!

Hello John,

I have not had to replace the wiring harness on my Catalina but I certainly did on my A-Body Chevy El Camino. I went with an American Auto Wire "Classic Update" kit and it had plenty of modern device / amperage upgrades. No more glass fuses, they were replaced with the modern "ATO" style. Each wire is well marked along its length with precisely what it connects to. You lay in the wires, cut to length and attach the correct connector. The instructions are sectioned and very well written. Get comfortable with a multimeter for testing as you go. It took me most of a month to get it all in, loomed, cut to length and connectors soldered / crimped. It was a night time and winter project that could be done faster. Their new fuse panel will fit your firewall hole perfectly.

A company called "Painless" also makes a kit but I have no direct experience with them. They do have a good reputation among car enthusiasts.
