So the kickoff of the Back to the Bricks in Flint was last night.  Widetracker club met up with a great parking spot. After some "seek N find" caught up with the group and waited for Frosty to arrive.  IndyJoe backed out.  Quick HI to the club members and welcome home to our club President who has had some extremely serious health issues.  We were heading to cruise the Bricks.  Hard start to Frosty's car and I was gonna back his timing off a bit on his 455.  We didn't have the correct tools.  Brings up the question of how to get around the heater hose to get to the timing hold down.   My timing hold down wrench is in the GTO at home of course.  Can see Frosty posting a thread on this.  Anyway took a lil over a half hour to get to Flint/Bricks, (normal 10min trip) I turned around and Frosty went in search of his brother.  2hrs later I'm not back to the club parking yet.  Floor of the car is burning up, engine temp is 160 (thankz again to the new fan I installed)   Need to close/latch the hood after showing off the hydraulic's,  and pull the headlight covers.  Lights show through, but not enough to safely drive the backroads without proper lighting. We also have a deer playin in the road problem here.  So stop to get gas and take care of the rest and the car will not start.  I have lights, power but not even a click.  Hooked up my jump box and battery is full charge.  Starter got too hot.  Now imagine two old people pushin the car to POP start it.  That didn't work well,  got help a number of times, but still no start. Compression is waay to high.  Nobody else to call,  Frosty to the rescue.  No tow strap, he did offer to drive us home N leave the car at the gas station.  Yea NO.  Give Momma a ride home and I'll sleep in the car if necessary til a flatbed truck shows up.  He did have 2 brand new RoadKill ratchet straps. Never tried to POP start a car in reverse.  This Justa breaks ratchet straps.  I did have 1 unbroken strap, let's see if we can break that one too.  Hooked it to the front and tried POP startin in 3rd gear.  NOPE but hit the key with the POP and it turned over N fired up.....Whew.   Got home, backed in the garage.  Shut it off, JUSTA for shit's n giggles tried to start it N nope.  Side note... 44 years and it's never been on a tow truck.  Always been able to find a way to limp it home.    Frosty....:bowdown:

I have a tow strap, and I had it with me when I owed the Chevy Avalanche. However, it was taken out when I sold the Avalanche and got the Envoy Denali. I traded the Denali in for the current Chevy Colorado. I suspect it's in my towing hitch parts and pieces milk crate but now finding it in the garage mahal....hmmm.

I got the rachet straps from my kid a couple of Christmas' ago. What Justa didn't tell you is how BADLY we destroyed one of the rachet straps while we were trying to pop start the Sunbird in reverse. Let's justa say I've never seen a rachet strap rachet mechanism literally explode into pieces the way this thing did!

I was happy to help the Marsha and Justa out. They were literally in my backyard and I couldn't leave them stranded. Of course, Marsha wondered how much they could sell the Sunbird for. Que the nasty look for Justa! I suspect Justa will be buried in that car before he sells it. LOL!

And for the record, I did have tools (sockets and wrenches), a timing gun, and a multi-meter with me in Lucy. Our issue was being able to actually see the distributor bolt between the heater core water hose at the back of the passenger side head, the vacuum advance vacuum line and mechansim, and the transmission vacuum line. The flashlight I had wasn't able to help us find it - not to mention how hot the motor already was.

Was thinkin about that.  I did not paint the heat shield nor did I install one.  I must be slippin.  Don't remember having spare parts when I put the engine back together.  Think I have a spare in boxes of parts.  What happened to the original?

Carry a bunch of my own and spare parts for the car I'm driving.  Frosty had the 9/16, but need the 90* to get under the distributor, that was in the GTO.  Melting stuff in the wifes purse is nothing new and she knows better than to put her purse on the floor, next to her feet. Haven't had the problem with the starter at all last year?  Been gone all day and haven't had the chance to get out there to see if it starts now.  Suppose to be the 4 letter word tomorrow w/Tstorms and again for Saturday.  :badGT:

Same here but im heading to work....

Got out Fri night N didn't make it home.  Also forgot the camera.  It was a perfect evening, temp wise and the clouds parted. Until it wasn't.  1st time the car has been outside all night AND in the rain in probably 30 years. But again made it home under it's own power!!!!   Agree with Frosty, the short and resulting smoke probably fried my Alt.  Need to have it checked and find a place to rebuild it.  I spent 20 hrs hand sanding and polishing the damn thing back when I was young N stupid N sittin in front of the TV.  Not doin it again, but not giving up that case.  So Saturday @ M1 was outstanding, they had sooo much to do and see this year it was well worth the $$$ to enter your car.  Not our 1st rodeo, Frosty had his tent to help dodge the liquid sunshine. Usually have both our tents and room for all in rain cases. Sooo I'll start this off with some of the event and cruisin shots.

Under the Big Top circus tent were....

Bruce Larson's USA-1 and "Jungle Jim" Leiberman's 70 Camaro funny cars. These are the actual cars too, not rebuilds or tributes.

The Detroit Lincoln Group had at least 15-20 Lincolns from 61-69 there. It was breath taking to watch them all roll by.

On another note on the silver bullet. Undefeated street racer..... He was a Detroit cop!  Didn't see that on the storyboard,

You are thinking of the Black Ghost Challenger. He was a Detroit cop. He never told his son what he did. His uncles had to tell him after his dad passed away.

The Silver Bullet was a Chrysler built race car that was put on the street.
